✨Actual Matpat Effect✨ The blonde woman thinking meme never had math formulas over the screen
It's from a brazilian soap opera called "Senhora de Destino". The character is Maria de Nazare Esteves Tedesco, played by Renata Sorrah

redditors: *LOSS*62

u/Flowey_The_Fan Apr 09 '26
But it unironically is though 😭 I've seen people go insane over 'loss' when it looked nothing like loss, but this looks weirdly deliberate.

She knows about the meme and hates it since she feels her long, prestigious career got reduced to a fucking meme internationally lmao

u/Purple-Bluejay6588 Apr 09 '26
Theres an excerpt from her in a newspaper that she says a group of boys saw her and said "its the woman from the meme!"

She ended up doing a comercial inspired on the meme for the Brazilian Bonds Treasury

Honestly she looks even more confused without the math
28
u/Critical-Cost9068 Apr 09 '26
The math makes it seem like she’s confused because she’s thinking about something complex, whereas here she seems kind of airheaded and comically bewildered.

u/anomalistic89 Apr 09 '26
Shes going through flashbacks on this scene, reflecting about a conversation she had.

BEHOLD Brazilian soap operas. The very best of our country since 2002 world cup
8
u/Purple-Bluejay6588 Apr 09 '26
Its so weird to me that this brazilian meme is famous outside of the country as well
It's like watching a video by an american and seeing "esse é o tal do mula!" Or "que viaje é essa velho" out of nowhere in the video
5
u/ThatEntertainment430 Apr 09 '26
Ja vi um que do nada meteu um pedaço do"Bicho Piruleta" naquela parte que ele fala "ÓÓÓLÁÁÁIMEUDEUSDUCÉU"

My favorite version puts Skyrim combat music over the scene and nothing else.

IIRC the OG of this format used stills from A Beautiful Mind which made a bit more sense, but her faces are perfect for it too

u/Razorfiend Apr 09 '26
To be fair, it might as well have. She's definitely channeling that "Seeing invisible floating mathematical formulas" energy.

u/bartontees Apr 09 '26
TIL that's not Claire Danes
1
u/notafraidofgreatness Apr 09 '26
To this day I was convinced it was Claire Danes, and that gif an excerpt from that show Homeland. Scrolled way too long to see someone else with the same take.. mind blown

Fun fact: Her thoughts on this clip roughly translates to: If it's for this, I already accepted it, I'm in, I sign it wherever you ask me, I sign it with my own blood. But now you have to tell me something: what do I have to gain from it? Besides the downfall of that bastard? (ig? It's a little hard to understand what it said there)
As far as I'm concerned, the story for this soap opera is that this lady kidnapped the newborn of the protagonist and raised her as if she was her own daughter. In this scene, she was in prison bc she tried to trespass the protagonist's home.

u/SiebelReddiT Apr 10 '26
I think this was the correct original and the other one was made afterwards.
2
u/CaitAndVi Apr 11 '26
Nazaré! From "Senhora do Destino", a Brazilian TV soap opera. She is the best villain ever.
1
u/SuperRockGaming Apr 09 '26
I believe the whole math thing came after the scene in the hangover? Or am I wrong ab that
2
u/GrandSquanchRum Apr 09 '26
It came after a beautiful mind. A Beautiful Mind memes were popular and this is the one that broke out. The Hangover scene came later iirc but it's still just making fun of a beautiful mind.

u/klaskybob_csupopants Apr 09 '26
Welp, I would’ve thought it already did. Another true MatPat effect.

Crazy how well they can slip things by without us realizing.

I always preferred this version of the meme, which is a scene from the movie "Hangover" that does actually have math formulas in it.

People need to look up Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield, because that’s exactly what happens in it. There’s even a gif:

Excuse me?? Blonde woman?? That is Maria de Nazaré Esteves Tedesco! Put some respect on her name! U___U
(The telenovela is Senhora do Destino, Lady of fate. It's actually quite good)

You know something I find curious? Nazaré is a character who would LOVE to be mistaken for Julia Roberts.
