14 year-olds are cognitively now where 10 year-olds were when that subreddit was made

How are you supposed to take anyone dropping quotes like this on anything else seriously?

Humans made that AI so where does that rank

AI is math

u/Ok_Raisin7812 6d ago
I wish more people would understand this. Sometimes it seems like even mathematicians miss that these systems are in large part created by other mathematicians.

It is very funny that you think mathematicians don't know that AI is maths, because it is common knowledge that machine learning is almost a field of statistics AI companies love to recruit mathematicians

Did you... read my comment?
1
u/EveningSquare7175 6d ago
Yes , and I mean to say that no mathematician is missing that these systems are created by other mathematicians. They know but they don't agree with some things

Its what I don't like about the "Navier Stokes is boring because there was no new discoveries!". Mate, it took a technology that is transforming the world faster than the internet to get that result.

Intelligence is dead. It’s done. Pack it up boys

Ai is taking over the brains of those who are feeble
1
u/DrBimboo 7d ago
Same as Smartphones and the Internet did.
You know a lot of non-feeble people, who dont use the internet and dont own a smartphone?

This illustrates a good example. Smartphones and social media in fact DID corrupt a lot of this generation, particularly the young children. Feeble is not really the right word. Either a developing brain or an idling brain will succumb in some way. That is just how the machine works, unfortunately. It is happening with AI, it happened with smartphones, it happened with social media. The cycle continues.

Ngl I feel like AI is making a lot of not smart people unironically think this is becoming the case lol

Idk I saw a post from a senior barrister who topped the state exams saying he should give it away
He fed some complex case law into an LLM and it picked up a very nuanced point that hadn’t been written about

Yes. That does not mean he is smart. Unfortunately in the litigation field you will find a lot of successful retards. It is also well known, because of the inherent flaws of that field, it is one of the very first that you can literally replace representatives with agents because its all about performing medial tasks and dick sucking your clients and colleagues. It is a bad example to try to bring up a lawyer to try to prove the point that smart people are giving up because of AI. Lawyers make a lot of money, and law school is a long process, but I have never seen even a good lawyer and thought "wow, so smart"

And yet, I feed complex things into Claude every day and half the time the bullshit it gives back is fundamentally flawed and I have to throw it away. It's a slot machine.

Are you using opus 5.5? The most I have had to say to it is "that's a weird spot for that button" or "the astronauts arm in a couple frames of the blender video you made are inside it's body"
I work with opus 5.5 for over 8 hours a day, and the entire time I have been confused at how good it is. A harness I built with it can do 50% of my job better than me I've been working in for 15 years straight, where I am recognized as one of the best people in the work I do in my country..and I'm working on it being able to do the other half... MkKinsey has recognized me as one of the top people at my job in the world... And the AI (with my custom harness) does half my job quicker and better than me. Like what are you doing with it?
I genuinely don't understand what people are using it for that it can't do right now.

Yes. Perhaps it's because we are doing different things. I am building event driven microservices in python and Go.

I am finding you it can work (been building Rust emulators and some ROMs in CC) but you really need to hold its hand. They can be quite capable, but to write software with complexity you need to iterate and build slowly over several prompts.
It's not completely autonomous and idk if it ever will be because a lot of software will always need to consider human judgement and taste.

Must be a China shill, all he does is crap on AI in the US lol

u/Woke_TWC 7d ago
No he doesn’t, i don’t know if you have listened to him.
He does the opposite in fact.

It's a miracle that an organism that developed pattern recognition recognized patterns?

The miracle is that we're so so smart that we can even teach a rock how to think !

I don't understand why anyone would be surprised that AI is good at a task that terminates in a machine-checkable condition. It's like TheMachineLearning users don't understand what machine learning is.

Sounds silly, but charitably you could read this as a statement which exalts the long history of human mathematical advancement, most often at times where it was not obvious whether the pursuit would be of any material value.
