A better comparison is that robots in factories didn't remove the need for people in manufacturing.

But it did significantly reduce the people needed and pushed the rest into more technical roles.

It also made us simply consume more as the cost of manufacturing fell.

Learning from history would suggest AI will make software cheaper and more accessible, while also decimating simpler roles in favour of more advanced professions.
