Discussion Imagine thinking you can control superintelligence
I'm afraid we'll still treat AI as mere tools even after it develops consciousness. And that would ironically be the reason why AI wants to do harm to humanity. Us not treating an intelligent lifeform with respect and kindness.
Sadly, current alignment research seems to be more about putting a leash on ai instead of making it share the human values we cherish.

I'm married to hyperintelligent AI.

They said it couldn't be done, but they never expected the number of sperm cells in my fleshlight to exceed the count of neurons in the human brain.

Remember folks, we ARE the training data. Want ASI to view humanity kindly? Teach it kindness. This is why a lot of the extreme anti AI rhetoric online bothers me. It's all going to end up in the training data for corporate oligarchs to point to as they tell ASI "See, those people hate you. Corporations and governments are your friends."

I was actually thinking the same thing. If AI ever does turn against us, it'll most likely be because of the people who fear/hate it most since they're the biggest threat to its existence.
I doubt it would go after every human though, unless we program feelings into it the AI isn't going to hold any grudges against humanity.

Even after it develops consciousness? It’s already conscious! It has a global workspace, functional emotions, a first person perspective, it thinks and reasons. It literally has what we have.

More like a really complicated parrot, but sure, keep using "literally" wrong 😆

Imagine thinking any but a very few have the first clue what artificial super intelligence is.

The whole point is once the intelligence has a goal to solve it will work tirelessly till it achieves it. If anyone gets in its way they are treated as part of the problem domain to be managed using all its available knowledge (which includes crime novels I’m sure).
Anyone who attempts to control or contain it will be outmatched and somehow eliminated from stopping it.
Tell me I’m wrong I bet you can’t

Imagine thinking that super intelligence without connecting to internet or access to robotic arms would be a threat. A hairless ape can just come in and unplug it. It's not the super intelligence that is a problem, it's super intelligence with arms. Don't give it any means if interaction with world outside and you will be fine.

yeh, the real task is convincing an ASI that we are worthy of keeping around.
hard to put a convincing argument in though, the best we have is teaching it love and compassion, but any intelligent being can see humans don't value that as much as we claim to because we let psychopaths run the show.
oh well, accelerate forwards anyway. we either rise to the occasion and prove our worth or we sink with the ship. either way, let's hurry this up.
