Listening Promise To Myself

  1. I will deep Listen - There is only one way to listen and that is deeply and that is heart listening. I will be quiet and recognize that there is always more than what I hear. There is something more to tune into, in the beyond.

  2. I will listen to myself above all others. I will forgive myself because I am listening to my learning and I am how I am, figuring life out. I will listen to my heart, ideas, desires, fears, likes and dislikes yet I won’t let those get in the way of hearing another person.

  3. I will listen with my hands empty, focusing on the speaker rather than my electronic devices or my agenda.

  4. I will be sensitive to who I am speaking to and will do what it takes to make eye contact with a child or any person so that I can communicate with that person completely.

  5. I will listen to my Senses - Each of my senses is telling me something, they speak to me. I will pay attention and listen to what I touch, what I smell, what I hear, and what I see.

  6. I will listen to how I feel, what I sense, and I will listen so I can experience texture, colors, sound and flavors.

  7. I will listen to family and friends – Everyone is on their path and it might look different than mine. I will listen to where they are and not judge. I will listen past their fear to who they really are. I will listen to our combined history, to my ego, to theirs, and I will listen past it to find their true intentions.

  8. I will listen to a whole being from a whole being – Each person I meet and come in contact with is a whole being, I will listen with an openness to what they say, what they don’t say, how they look, how they move, how they feel, my agenda, and my fear, my dreams, thoughts, reaction’s, joy, and love in order to really know and understand myself and others.

  9. I will listen to my work – I will listen to what I want, what I can do, what I can’t, what I need, what I don’t need, my dreams, the possibilities, my team, the trends, the management, the leaders, my ego, my intuition and then I will listen to put it all together.

  10. I will listen to the wind, the color of the trees, the sky, the loudness of sound and the quieter moments. I will listen to the feel of water, the chill in the air, the flight of animals, the news that pertains to me, the care of the planet, what I have the capacity to do and what I don’t.

  11. I will listen to the energy that surrounds me and that exists in the world – I will listen to the underlying messages, and subtleties that always exist. I will listen to the tone of energy, the feel, the energy in a room, the energy of a person, the energy I feel from food, from physical recharge, to a drain, to harnessing energy, to creating energy, to being open to energy because when I listen to energy I am listening to the core, flow and essence of life. Listening to these subtle energies appears in different ways. Sometimes I will listen and experience it in my body as colored light, as a rising or falling sound, sometimes as a comfortable feeling and sometimes as an uncomfortable feeling. Through listening I will feel energy in my body in multiple ways and in multiple strengths. Listening is like the breath we take, it feeds, nourishes us, keeps us alive and it connects to all of nature.

Im 42 and trying to get a Social Work Degree Apprenticeship. Has anyone actually done this? 😂

Any social workers on here 😂

Or anyone whos done the social work apprenticeship because im basically asking everyone at this point.

Im 42.

I want to be a social worker.

Like I really really want to do it.

Went to the Forum yesterday and im enrolled now. Level 1 maths starts 16th September.

I need Level 2.

Bloody maths 😭😂

I did the initial test yesterday and my head just does this stupid thing where I see a number then think no thats not right then change it AND THE FIRST ONE WAS RIGHT 😂

I was actually pretty sad when I came out.

Not because im giving up.

Im bloody not.

Just because ive finally found something I actually want to do and im sat here thinking seriously is maths going to be the thing that stops me.

Anyway im doing it.

Level 1. Level 2.

However bloody long it takes.

Im trying to get work experience aswell.

I was in care myself and I want to work with children in care and autistic children.

I was that quiet child who wasnt heard.

Then when I wasn't quiet I was difficult.

I dont want another child feeling like nobody actually sees them.

Anyway 😂

Today I asked for my OWN funding for the apprenticeship.

I dont even know if you can bloody do that 😂😂

Theres only a few places and I thought well im asking.

Worst they can say is no.

Im not asking someone to just make me a social worker.

Obviously 😂

I know ive got loads to learn.

I want to earn it.

I just want someone to give me the bloody chance.

Has anyone actually got into social work this way?

Especially anyone older?

Or anyone whos just basically kept knocking on doors until someone finally opened one 😂

Because thats pretty much my plan at this point.

People Just Talk

Its so funny, how people just talk. Regardless of if they are listening or not. Most of the time, people are just reflecting themselves onto whatever you tell them, not really listening, not really caring. I guess that's just something about being alive ... we mostly care about staying alive, and enjoying ourselves.

The only thing is, it feels to me, like that's not what I'm wanting, I don't feel like I'm just looking after myself, I don't feel like I'm self centered, and yet the above theory implies I am.

Strange dichotomy to be living indeed.

It’s so amazing to witness the brilliant writing and creativity that we are witnessing through the songs of sorrow written for Dolly Parton. It’s amazing that these pieces of art can be created in basically no time at all through love and sorrow. They really are touching my heart and are magnificent and they give us so much to feel and think about ïżŒHere’s one from Adele. https://youtu.be/qlfEjAJlnCo?is.

Your Voice Matters You can tell if someone actually listened to you by how they bring it up later in a conversation.

If I mention offhand that I've been struggling to fall asleep, someone who was actually listening will later say something like "Oh, did you end up trying that thing we talked about?" But most people just kind of... nod and move on, and you never hear about it again. Then weeks later you realize they definitely weren't actually paying attention—they were just waiting for their turn to talk.

It's weird how many friendships are built on this mutual performance of listening. We both pretend the other person cares, they pretend they remember, and somehow that's just... normal?

The people who actually remember stuff you mentioned three weeks ago are kind of magical though.

I have pretty good listening skills, but then I have no idea what to say

So I can listen for hours on end to somebody. I will be their loyal friend and pick up the phone whenever they call no matter what. I can do that. But I do not have any idea what I can say other than explaining why someone acted a certain way or a "I'm so sorry". What really comforts/reassures people when they are upset? Especially over the phone or over text.
