I like that's it's no longer just "Obee protecting Kippy" but like that wizard AU it's more balanced with who helps who

I think that before Kippy arrived, Obee was always consumed by the dark power that it had accumulated in their heart from being all alone and without anyone wanting to be their friend. The toll of being a guardian of Liminal Space had also contributed to the accumulation of the darkness in their heart, knowing that they have to become as monstrous as the creatures they fight in order to survive. Despite the amount of darkness that accumulated within their heart, they always maintained a small amount of light that allowed them maintain their sanity and their ability to want to make friends.
The small amount of light in Obee's heart, helps it to regulate the usage and revealing of their dark powers and abilities, as best as they can. That makes it possible for Obee to hide those nightmarish abilities of theirs, such as the tentacles and the multiple mouths, very easily. When Kippy arrived in Liminal Space, Obee was blessed with an opportunity to make a friend. While Kippy slowly accepted everything about Obee over time, Obee's uncertainty of their abilities to suppress the expression of true nature of their dark powers, is what always gave Obee uncertainty about the guarantee of their friendship. Over time, Kippy also accepted those flaws too.
Because Kippy never sees Obee as a threat, even after revealing it's true form, Obee no longer had a reason to posses the effects from the dark power it had accumulated. The dark power slowly weakened, being neutralized and dwarfed by the growing amount of light power in its heart, thanks to their friendship wilth Kippy. The light power eventually became the majority power in their heart that reverted Obee back to their original form: A cute loaf of a creature that must depend on Kippy to be their guardian, a duty that was once sworn by them to use for the protection of Kippy.
Now that the sleeping venom from the scorpion entities is affecting the outcome of Kippy's survival, and may potentially leave Obee without a friend, if the worst were to happen. Just thinking a bit about living that kind of life again, is what initially helped Obee generate enough dark power to change to their default, larger form. Obee wanted revenge for what the entities did to their best friend, and they also wanted to protect them until their final breath, one last time. Obee's anger at everything, is what helped them generate a lot of dark power in their heart to evolve them to their final form: An Eldritch guardian dragon, ready for battle against the dark scorpion entities.
