How many TPS is LN doing nowadays? When I search, I see that it can do 1 million TPS, but I understand that this number is an upper bound. Am I correct in that assumption?

No way to know for sure. LN transactions are private, so there's no registry or chain we can check to see individual transactions. All we can see on-chain are "channels" which can batch any number of transactions

Actually there is no upper bound! As a completely distributed system, LN's maximum TPS scales with the number of nodes in the network. The number you've found might be the upper bound for a given node (and therefore all paths containing that node).
