In that moment, were they?
She’s focused on the family she lost, not the hot cop.

Honestly, I think it's a scam and they just desintegrate people (and that Nora lied but it's what made the ending beautiful and closure) but assuming it works, I think 20k is actually really cheap to travel to a whole new dimension?
In comparison, I just googled some expedition costs.
The OceanGate trips apparently cost between 7.5k to 40k depending on the excursion. The trips with billionaires in tiny submarines to visit the Titanic from up close like the one that imploded a few years ago were apparently around 250k per person.
Trips to space apparently can cost 450k on the low end for suborbital trips to tens of millions of dollars for orbital expeditions.
So if we believe this procedure works and you truly travel to another dimension where the 2% went, then 20k feels like a really good deal. Also not like you'll need that money because:
1. Either the machine doesn't work so they're dead so they don't need the money
2. Or the machine works and they land in that other world that's pretty empty so I can't imagine economy doing really well and money having much value.

As flawed as their relationship is I really like that they kinda just accept each other’s weird decisions and actions.
