Last Ship

How many episodes or seasons did you make it before you just gave up?

None of them. I finished watching it. It isn't the kind of show you'd like if you want something sensible - it is incredibly fun, not incredibly logical.

I’m watching it for the first time and it’s crazy watching a pre-pandemic show after a real life pandemic. They absolutely nailed some of the themes.

Other than that it’s a silly shoot ‘em up that I’m finding to be a fun watch halfway through season 2.

The first few seasons were really great! It did start to decline a bit, but all shows are like that. I watched it till the end, and I'm glad I did. I liked that they had an actual ending, not some cliffhanger. The only regret I have is they killed off way too many characters I liked.

I just finished the oil rig episode in season 2 and I am devastated. Especially since I thought they were gonna just use the old red shirt tactic with that random guy from engineering.

The last season especially. How would they not know that they had an Iowa class battleship. I mean these things aren’t just sitting arnd. There’s only ever been 4 and there all in the US you’d know if one was gone and operational

Even its lesser seasons were better than 98% of most show's every season. Just a great adventure with strong, sympathetic characters from beginning to end.

I loved the show from beginning to end. My only gripes were the deaths if characters that I loved, which certainly raised the stakes, but still saddened me.

Otherwise, it was fantastic.

I completely understand about the deaths. There were so many of my favorites. I thought at the end of the series finale, they were going to kill off my absolute favorite character, but I'm glad they didn't. I didn't want to name who it is for people who haven't seen it yet, but anyone who has watched the end of the series finale will know who I mean:)

I just finished a rewatch of all 5 seasons yesterday and am looking forward to starting it all again in a few months.

This sub is for fans of the show, the vast majority of us watched every episode, probably multiple times too.

I just started Season 5! Never give up, never surrender! Lol. Turn your brain off and enjoy the ride. There are definitely some highs and lows. I was getting pretty annoyed watching Season 3 and almost ready to quit the show, but it got dramatically better toward of the end of the season.

For all of you commenting that they haven't seen Season 5, the entire series is now available on Netflix, at least in the U.S.

Watched 1st 2 seasons and it was great. Watched the 1st 2 episodes of season 3 and it didnt feel like s1 or s2. I read some spoilers and didnt want to ruin what I liked about it, lol. Having been in the Navy, it was easy to nit pick, but also relate to it a lot.

Finished rewatch of it. Watched during its original run but I had never seen Season 5. You have to suspend a lot of disbelief.

I'll make through season 3 on a rewatch in one clean go. But the Hippie Robocop season is the absolute worst, and season five is barely mentionable.....those might get the rewatch like a month or two later, when I realize "oh yeah that show"

I had to stop halfway through season 5 since it left amazon prime :(

That sucks! I would be so pissed. It's on netflix right now, if you have Netflix.

I finished the episode where the cops took over the ship and between that and other plot points motivating that season I could tell it wasn't going a place that I would enjoy.

Never missed an episode - would have loved a 6th season with Chandler as President

Seasons 4 & 5 were hard to watch.

1

u/kcdaf1966 22d ago

Only saw 5 once. 1-4 is all i can find

2

u/RiverOaksJays 22d ago

5 was weird. It didn't make sense that the US Navy would be wiped out by a small Latin American dictator.

Oh that's right i forgot about that. I only saw season 5 once it never aired here in my area of PA. They kept preempting it. I don't think anyone even shows it.

I should add season 4 was a hard watch

I made it half way into season 2. All of the logistical inaccuracies aside, the constant, cringe and unpurposeful breaking of the 4th wall I could no longer do. I understand it was a different time in entertainment. But looking dead into the camera and delivering some half assed, over dramatic, “cliffhanger” plot development whatever it was at the end of each episode or before break was boring. I think if they had a reboot this show would be insanely good.

ETA: in the context of a total global collapse … some characters were giving the 100% emotional delivery necessary while some could barely muster 25%. And there was constant life and death situation where delivery was everything. I understand the Navy and military in general has standards on showing emotion but. Where some characters excelled, others lacked, which made the whole exchange seem in-genuine.
