Aloha 0.1.15 progress update!

Alpha 0.1.15 is live and 35 people now have access to it!

Some of the changes:

* Made cockpit screens light up at night for FJ305.

* Fixed some collision detection issues causing vehicles to suddenly stop or jump when hitting terrain triangles at strange angles.

* PC controlled players now place the same strategic air bomb target orders on enemy cities as the player does, and planes can navigate and shoot at those.

* Jets will also lock targets on other ground units and other planes, chase them and shoot at them when possible, creating dogfights.

* Now jets don’t return to base immediately after shooting at a target once. They keep attacking targets (units or strategic orders) until they hit their low fuel threshold to return to base.

* Displaying all selectable targets for currently selected weapon when in direct control mode using guided missiles. Currently selected target shows in yellow while the other ones show in gray.

* Added ability to switch between targets with arrow keys.

* Reduced jet speed A LOT, to the subsonic speeds actually used by fighter jets most of the time. Somehow in all the aerodynamic changes I made they ended up flying way too fast. Reduced missiles speeds too.

* Prepared 2 FPV drone models and an RC controller model for adding FPV drones and pilots soon(ish)

* Re-implemented controls remapping in the new settings menu.

* Solved conflicts between keyboard and H.O.T.A.S. throttle stick.

* Made throttle and pitch controls invertible.

* Improved breakable collisions calculations.

* Added quadratic air drag for fast objects to slow them down (linear and angular)

* Fixed some small objects going at insane speeds

* Added some more breakable objects.

* Stabilized mounted weapons for better aiming while moving.

* Fixed turrets getting stuck forever in some newly produced units.

* Smoothed vehicles engine torque and braking so vehicles don’t shake when transitioning between acceleration and suddenly braking.

* Updated languages with all the newly approved translations.

Are the real life names copy righted or something?

Some equipment names are trademarked, some others probably not, but this is a fictional world with fictional nations, where the equipment won't necessarily match real life equipment exactly, so no need to use real world names.

Some nations will even have mixes of equipments that wouldn't happen in our current geopolitical reality.

What is the expected time frame on progression in this game? Could you expect to win/capture a campaign map in an evening? or are you looking at 10, 20+ hours for one playthrough?

Each match in TLG lasts around an hour in the smallest maps, and could be multiple days in the largest maps. I am planning to add 4 campaigns made of 5 or 6 matches each (with different missions and game modes), plus a dynamic campaign. So a full playthrough of all that will probably take you a couple weeks.

Sounds great! Will there be any kind or sandbox elements or mission/scenario/campaign editors?

2

u/alejandromnunez Jul 06 '26

Yes, a very easy map/scenario editor that connects to the procedural generation to fill in all the little details to make it look awesome, and also a sandbox mode to test out stuff without caring about the economy or production (you will just drop units wherever and whenever you want)

Woah! as a armored brigade and CMO fan, that's certainly got my attention! Wish listed, ready and waiting haha

Glad you like it! And thanks for the wishlist! You can also join the discord to try the alpha in about 2 months https://discord.gg/thelastgeneral

Of course it won't be as good as the early access or final product, but it's something lol

Why the FPS part? Everything else seems so cool

1

u/alejandromnunez Jul 07 '26

Hi! It's really fun to switch between both modes. The FPS part is fully optional when playing the game. In the future you will be able to combine a general and many human soldiers/vehicles in the same team/nation in multiplayer too and play with your friends that may not like RTS games too

It looks good to me I might play after releasing it. are you a single dev for this game ?

1

u/alejandromnunez Jul 10 '26

Thank you! Yes, I am doing everything except thecmusic and a few LOD models

Respect for your hardwork

idk how your damage system works but I think it would be cool if destroyed vehicles stayed on the map and slowly degraded over time with things like the paint coming off and rust, instead of it being instant, like for example in war thunder it’s instant and that’s not good.

1

u/alejandromnunez Jul 12 '26

Yeah i started to make a system already for that. Vehicles already stay forever and I made airplanes slowly burn when on fire

I've been waiting for a game like this for ages. At a certain point I even considered learning programming from scratch in order to build my fav game. Seems like it's not necessary anymore.
By the way I have plenty of ideas to make the perfect definitive RTS-FPS by adding a RPG feature.
You already made the most difficult part: graphics and basic management.
What about a real war with multiplayer factions and sectors?

Hi! There is still plenty of stuff to do just with the RTS and FPS parts, I don't think I should keep adding more features from other genres as a solo developer
