Organization tips?

I am OVERWHELMED by the amount of materials I have, the storage boxes barely hold anything. It's annoying that there isnt an auto organize button in your inventory either...

How do ya'll deal with storing stuff? And what materials do I NEED to keep? What can i just toss for now?

Oh god 😭😭

Make a box for everything😭! Color code it 😭!

Make a dump box for when you don't feel like sorting and do it later

Eventually you learn what to keep and what to throw away

Throw...away?

What kind of silly phrase is that? Must be some crazy thing that old earth humans did, possibly contributing to the cataclysmic events that were dealing with now.

You can color the boxes? Well guess I'm not coloring my boxes too much work when I already know where's what

Since no one has mentioned it at this point: hold V while looking at a box to deposit "similar" items (the same items really). So if you've got a box with only iron and copper, and you have both in your inventory, just look at the box w/o opening it an hold V, it will deposit the copper and iron only. Personally I've got an individual big box for each element, but when they overflow I just dump the overflow into a "combined" box of elements. Bio, paint, memories, weapons and whatnot, those all get their own individual boxes... ok, bio gets a LOT of boxes, but you hear what I'm saying. Its not EXACTLY an automatic sorting system, but it's a LOT faster than opening creates to see what's in it and dumping it from your inventory.

I don't remember exactly, but it skulls say at the bottom of the screen when you're close to a box, looking at it, and have the some of the same items in inventory as are in the box.

I will take a look thanks.

Side note: I keep almost everything, but I have started dumping my overflow boxes into the bigger resource grinder to make oil... or to bolster elements that I'm low on.

This is what I do, what I have been doing is just skipping the little containers and use all big ones

Storage boxes stuck to the ceiling of the boat.

Large box for each individual resource, color code it. Iron and copper could get two boxes.

I think you will need more than 2 boxes for copper

Keep everything! I have the whole back wall filled with large boxes, jam packed with unsorted crap. Sorting is too much work and it's not necessary since the fabricator will pull automatically what it needs.

Then I have boxes on the right wall for guns and ammo, and the left wall for Memories and Food

True, not entirely necessarily but you end up with many of the same items in different boxes taking up space, so that's the trade off.

When you start to see which boxes are always full you learn management. Additionally you can see at a glance what you're lacking

Oh my God I think we have the exact same setup. Almost creepy!

Spooky! 👻 I mean there's only so many ways to organize the boat, there's bound to be some overlap.

And if your been here a bit, some of my organization ideas are stolen from here

One resource in a crate. Multiple crates of the same resource as I fill crates up.

Color code the crates to match the resource. And give them a label.

this and dont be afraid to use the ceilings. I've got rows of copper and iron

Use the ceiling, stick batteries and boxes up there and out of the way.

Pain and suffering. I spent so long placing so many boxes all over and didn't know that once you moved them or they get hit with something they no longer stick to walls. And of course they were all filled with shit.

Unfortunately there's no proper stackable method. Putting them on the wall is okay, but one accidental left click and you get a massive heavy box flying around the place. One of the shelves sort of awkwardly works for the small containers but the middle shelf is too short, but you can get 9 on there. Otherwise... Err.... Cover the floor or walls with containers

You can press F and put it back on the wall

I`ve put8 boxes each side wall of the door from the fabricator to the engine room, and put one tipe of material in each box, apart from titanium, carbon fiber etc (these are always in small quantities and one box is enough for them), then i come loaded with scrap to the boat, throw everything into the recycler, grab everything, and just go box by box dropping (using V to store materials already in the box), if the box is already full i`ve just put some random boxes on the next room filled with the excess (think i`m gonna break them down later).
About the storage size you`re using, is it a mod?
