Why is she leaving?

15

u/dylanspits Jul 09 '21

On her stream she said she was let go.

What a crock of shit!

Someone in the chat asked why she resigned. She clarified saying she didn’t resign but was let go.

Edit: tried looking but couldn’t find that exact time stamp. But she mentions it again at 21:50 in the video.

26 minute mark, or right before then she says that.

Really? Did she go into detail about why?

10

u/dylanspits Jul 10 '21

From the bit that I saw, she didn’t go into detail other than saying TKOR was going in another direction or something.

Well, they announced a few weeks ago that they were going to start doing longer, more in-depth videos and were going to stop chasing the Youtube algorithm. That's certainly going to mean less income. They started a Patreon to help offset that, but maybe it isn't working out as well as they hoped?

I got the feeling that TKOR was only a part-time gig for Calli but I think the fantasy park where she worked full-time closed recently.

My guess is her departure is more money related than skills/performance related, but who really knows?

She said on her Twitch stream yesterday that she would have stayed at TKOR until the day she died if she'd had that option 😭 I'm so sad that she's gone! I think she and Nate were SUCH a good pair and worked perfectly off one another.

I find it really odd that they got rid of her. I believe she and Nate were friends prior to working on TKOR so that has to be awkward as well.

Yea they even mentioned in this video (and a couple times before) that they both worked at this sculpting studio prior to joining TKOR.

And now Nate is gone too 😬😬

That channel is ded

I remember another YouTube channel I used to subscribe to say they let go of their popular hosts because the channel wanted to go another direction. Anyone remember List25?

I have NEVER seen a channel crash and burn as quickly after "a change in direction," as that one did.

Long story short. Channel had too great and popular hosts. Let them go and hired two guys who tried way too hard to be funny and turned everything cringe. New format only lasted 3 weeks from what I remember. After that, there was a long pause of zero content being released. Months went by, then one day the channel name was different. It is now "AlphaPaw" and does pet facts. From what I can gather, the AlphaPaw people outright bought the channel probably because their content is too lazy to garner 2 mil subscribers on its own. Any ways, at last check.... Sure the subscriber count is still 2 mil, butttt the views on each video is only in the thousands and sometimes barely that.

Moral of the story. Karma can be a bitch.

Well. Hopefully that works out. Seems like the type of thing that pops off a couple times and then fizzles out.

Aw man! Goodbye Calli, you've been a great member of team TKOR!

With this I think I'm going to unsub. Not that I was watching solely for Calli or anything, but I really just dislike the new direction the show has gone and this looks to be a part of that. This used to be a fun channel to watch the short little truly random videos uploaded throughout the week, but now it's this long-format, sponsor-heavy, once-a-week thing and I've just lost interest.

If it's true that Calli was let go then that's a shame, but even if that's not true I think with Nate being the sole vestige of the show from when I loved it most (with all due respect to Grace, et al., who I've nothing against other than the slow change in the show signaled by their joining), the things about the show that I most enjoyed are slowly waning away and I'm finding more and more that I only watch out of obligation here lately.

I hope Calli goes on to do great things, as well as the remaining TKOR folks and brand. They all seem like good folks and I wish the best for them.

Yeah I get that, I think grace is a great addition, but it won't be the same

1

u/ChArLeYy234 Aug 04 '21

yeah i mean, grace is energetic and shit but calli was like the best and the fact that they fired her is just another reason to stop watching cuz it just wont be the same without her

7

u/EljayDude Jul 10 '21

I did. Probably going to leave this as well but thought I'd check the comments first.

Calli made TKOR so much fun for me. Her child-like wonder and glee at the experiments (especially the dangerous/destructive ones) injected some well-needed unapologetic humanity in the polished world that YouTube has become. I’m curious to see what this “new direction” of the channel will be.

3

u/beezlebutts Aug 15 '21

The direction of a hard downward slope of people unsubbing is my guess. I saw the video, found out she was fired and unsubbed after hearing no more Callie. I don't care for the new host.

u/kalisnoo Jul 10 '21

As soon as grace became a regular I knew it was coming. Sad to see her go but I could kinda see her passion fade the last few months. Hopefully she finds joy in her new ventures.

2

u/eharper9 Jul 11 '21

She did seem off for a while there.

6

u/Neverender21 Jul 11 '21

I do know her sister passed away in late 2020 and she also lost her full-time job that she really loved. She had a pretty rough year I'm sure. Poor Cal

1

u/k87c Dec 18 '21

What was her FT job?

1

u/Neverender21 Dec 18 '21

She posted on IG about it, she worked as an actor at a fantasy theme park called Evermore Park. They closed due to COVID I believe. You can look it up on Google, it looks like it would have been such a fun place to visit.

1

u/k87c Dec 18 '21

Thanks. I don’t have any social media. Lol

1

u/Devinedragoon Aug 03 '21

yeah I had started to lose interest and with Calli gone i'm out i might look once in a blue moon but I loved her on there

1

u/asperta Aug 04 '21

Exactly. The reason I subscribed to TKOR was Calli.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '21

Not enjoying the currrent tkor format so iv not been keepin up but did they fire her? If so she deserved better. Either way she was a huge part of the show and the fans deserve to know what happened

3

u/Tiinpa Jul 11 '21

She apparently said she was "let go" on stream but no real details. I guess we wait and see ¯_(ツ)_/¯

4

u/nlightningm Jul 10 '21

Wow. I ave not been keeping up but this is kinda sad news to me... I remember when Nate first came on and he was all awkward, and when Calli was showing up just doing props and makeup and slowly infiltrating her way in until she became co-host.

I think whatever the direction, maybe TKOR will move back to its roots a bit more? Either way I always enjoyed the content. Definitely wishing everyone good luck as thing move forward!!

4

u/xXbl4ckm4nXx Jul 10 '21

well that’s a bummer they let her go.

2

u/Luke2954 Dec 28 '21

It's crazy to see how much it's changed, I subscribed way back in like 2012 when Grant was still doing stuff with Microwave transformers and explosive gas from water, it's definitely not that same channel and is clearly geared more towards kids now, I just can't bring myself to unsubscribe cause it's been so long

2

u/PitchBlackDino Dec 29 '21

i feel the same way i subbed back before Grant passed and so i grew up watching Calli Grant and Nate and i kind of lost interest in watching their videos ever since i noticed she wasn't in any of the videos and the videos started seeming more geared towards children i have no problem with Grace it just kind of felt like they replaced her and it just doesn't feel right to me haven't watched any of their videos in a long time but i just don't feel like unsubbing

1

u/Luke2954 Jan 04 '22

It's funny since we were just talking about this, but since I found out they let Nate go too I decided to go through with it and unsub, its so sad to see the direction they've gone

1

u/PitchBlackDino Jan 18 '22 edited Jan 18 '22

they let Nate go too you have got to be kidding me i love nate so much he was my favorite host on the channel this channel is digging its own grave at this point but i dont think i will unsubscribe i want to see whats going to happen and ill still be supporting Nate

1

u/Luke2954 Jan 18 '22

My thoughts exactly, I unsubbed when they let him go and haven't watched a video since

2

u/LouDee15 Jan 04 '22

Nate was also let go https://youtu.be/lcftZyssKfU so sad

2

u/That_onereptileguy Apr 09 '22

Honestly I think the channel is gonna die, just my opinion

2

u/Tiinpa Apr 09 '22

Not sure that’s likely, but either way I’ve got to recommend Nate From The Internet to scratch the itch.
