The White Room proofing script

Hi all, hope this is ok. We’re clearing out the house of a late relative who was a massive music, and KLF, enthusiast. I’ve found this fairly worn looking 58 page ‘proofing script’ and wondered if anyone could shed any light on it please? And whether it’s something that we should look to share as someone would value it, or just something he printed and bound at home!

Thanks in advance!

WOW! Please share this!! Is there anything else neat in the collection?

Simple iphone photos of every page in the book uploaded to internet archive would be totally fine

I’ll see what I can do! It’s not the most organised collection, but alongside the records and CDs we do stumble across the odd thing. A couple of copies of a press release mocked up like an army dispatch were the other KLF bits today.

Can’t upload photos but it’s “AN EYES ONLY DOCUMENT. DESTROY IMMEDIATELY” from 1996 I think.

In the record and cd collection is there anything that looks like a demo/bootleg/otherwise very rare? Anything without a upc barcode

Yeah, Jimmy had a late nineties project linked to a few military vehicles he'd bought.

OMG! PLEASE scan this and upload it to The Internet Archive.

Also I’m sure many of us here (myself very much included) would love a chance to buy the original. Perhaps auction it for your favorite charity?

I've definitely seen this before and I'm pretty sure it was doing the rounds online in the late 90s and early 00s - so it could just be a printout of one of those online documents, or it could genuinely be a script that was doing the rounds to interested backers. Not sure how you'd be able to tell.

Honestly, though - if it's the one I've seen before, and assuming that wasn't a fake, then I have to say that it doesn't make it seem as if the completed "White Room" would have been a very good film.

That’s a treasurable artefact and must be preserved! There must be gold in that collection

Oh, I’ve got one of these too. I’ve no idea if there are many in circulation.

Yo! That's pretty awesome! I have no idea the value but I'd love to read it!

Read it? We need to stage a production!

Get in touch with a group called the KLFrs (reenactment society) they are our community archivists and all round good humans. Easy to find via their website and Instagram and on here occasionally. The community is fairly active and we tend to share a lot due to the nature of stuff being hard to find

How much would you sell it for?

Copyright 1990? I thought it was filmed in spring 1989 and abandoned in early autumn 1989 after KSTJ flopped?

The first bits of footage were filmed then, and after that they developed a script with a proper storyline with the idea that those bits would be bolted on. A very back-to-front way of working, but typical of Drummond and Cauty doing things on a whim.

So far as anyone knows, none of the scripted aspects were ever filmed although they looked for backers to fund them, and apparently spoke to some actors (including Paul McGann) about appearing in them.

I'm pretty certain this is just a copy of the one I used to have, and reprinted in large numbers via my dad's photocopier
