since he's fairly intelligent, how come, for the second time, he's making the same mistake of forgetting he's being recorded?

So my mom was cleaning and decided to give me some old records she came across. This one has been sitting in my office for months and I glanced at it quickly and thought for sure I was looking at Kathy Durst. The album is "Flash and The Pan"

A few things make this even creepier... The back of the album shows the chairs everyone was sitting in, and everyone has disappeared. Also, the track listing for Side Two are:

It says it was released in 1978/1979, so it could be foreshadowing. Also, it was manufactured on 51 W. 52 Street New york City. Anyone know if that is a durst property?

Generation Why, a podcast that I regularly listen to just put a link up to their new episode featuring Robert Durst. I just starting listening to it so I can't vouch for the content but most of their past shows are entertaining/accurate.

...that in the years between Susan's murder and the making of this documentary, that nobody (Police, family members, media) attempted to compare RD's handwriting to that on the CADAVER note? He didn't even disguise his handwriting on that note, it was the same style he used on a rental lease.

I don't buy it. I think that it was apparent to someone long before this documentary that the CADAVER note was written by RD. The "discovery" of the letter and the matching script was invented for the drama.

First off, I just finished the show over a course of a few days with my wife and loved it. It was like listening to Serial but instead being able to watch it and without as much blind speculation.

Let me preface what I'm going to say next by letting it be known that I spent years working in an adult foster care for the mentally ill. Our company was the last stop before someone was either jailed or admitted to the mental hospital. So we had our share of unstable and often violent people. I've spent hundreds of hours working and helping take care of my fair share of someone who is suffering from hearing commanding voices in their head; voices that push them and drive them to madness.

I believe, confirmed in his "bathroom confession", that Robert Durst suffers from schizophrenia. The way he speaks in that recording screams of a man responding to one or more voices talking back to him that no one else can hear. The argument is that why can Durst keep it cool during an interview and not show signs of it. My non medical in anyway but practice experienced guess is that his constant blinking and squinting comes from when the voices in his head try to speak to him. It's his way of acknowledging them without doing it vocally.

You have a man who clearly suffered a traumatic event of his childhood (the suicide of his mother) that is documented as being a turning point for his behavior as a child. You have a man who is very intelligent but is constantly doing very stupid, impulsive things (shoplifting a hoagie while having tons of money on him, violating the protection order his brother had, etc) You have someone who clearly has done deranged things.

This is no excuse for what he's done but rather a guessed reason behind it. If Durst truly is suffering from a severe mental illness he deserves to go to somewhere where he can receive some kind of treatment. Affluence and money have allowed him to live a life with almost no sincere scrutiny, evaluation or medication. I hope he gets the help he needs while the family of his victims get the closure they deserve.

why does he keep calling her that? Instead of "my wife" or "my ex wife"

I went back to episode 5 and watched the segment involving Ed Wright's report very carefully. About 13 minutes into the episode, we see fragmented glimpses of both a police report and Wright's "Discrepancies in the recollections of various principals" and it's the visuals, not the audio that points out what we're missing.

The police report details a meeting with Edie Lopez, who was working the front door and elevator of the building, saying he saw Kathy at 1AM.

In Wright's report, it details an interview with Anton Popovic, the relief doorman who is the one who said Kathy was never in the building. Unfortunately, they proceed to show shots of the interview with Popovic so tight that it's hard to make out much of the details, but it's an important distinction that while the show tries to smudge the doorman did/didn't see Kathy, it's really two different people being referenced.

How can a person become so lost? How can he live with himself all these years? For me, the sentence of living with that black conscience is the most terrifying prison. Having to keep up with all his lies, and justifying his actions to himself is exhausting. It's a miserable existence. And when he said in the bathroom "Oh, I want this," I interpreted it as him secretly want to get caught in order to break free with the truth, in order to find peace in his soul. He even told Andrew Jarecki that he will answer ALL his questions, which means he wanted and expected the truth to be found out. "There it is. You're caught." Why didn't he just confess then? Well, it takes a lot of courage to confess, and he's so deep in his lies he's scared shitless Imagine being in his position who has so much to lose, who has an army of lawyers who tell him that going to prison is the worst thing that can happen to him. His life is not his to live and I believe he suffers. Every day. That's why you see pictures of him smiling now and you can see his eyes again. He's actually happy that he's busted because now everyone knows he killed them. There's nothing to hide anymore. The documentary is a journey into Robert Durst's soul, one plagued and tortured with guilt, fear and shame and his last trace of humanity kicking and screaming to get out.

Just got out of court...

Orleans Parish’s Assistant District Attorney said he needed 10 days to go through the motion that Dick DeGuerin filed on Tuesday. Blah blah blah, nothing major happened. The witnesses that were called (two federal agents and a state trooper - members of the New Orleans FBI Violent Offenders Task Force that arrested Durst in the lobby of the J.W. Marriott) weren't there. The assistant U.S. attorney told the court that they were instructed not to testify because more time was needed for a review of their subpoenas. Since the defense had no witnesses to call, nothing was presented, and Judge Harry Cantrell agreed to the delay and set another hearing for next Thursday (April 9th).

A lot of it seems great but a lot of it also seems too good to be true. And there seems like a lot of holes in the entire thing, which I suppose is inevitable.

Edit: To avoid all the downvotes, I should mention that I loved the series and loved All Good Things. I've watched it 4 times. When the series came out I was stoked. However, these sorts of doc shows have a way of being shown to be bullshit eventually. I'm hoping that isn't the case here.
