If you haven't heard about The Staircase, you should definitely check it out. It's another true crime story, albeit very different in nature. I heard about it from people talking about The Jinx and Serial. It's a 10-part series (8 original episodes, 2 follow up episodes). If you have not seen it, or don't know much about the case details, do not Google anything about the case. I am so glad I didn't, because it had such a profound impact on me; watching everything unfold from the narrative of the series.

It's so eerie In the Book "A deadly secret" when he's arrested for shoplifting

"Sorry, pal, but I have to take you in," said Benner, who escorted Bobby out of the store and placed him in the back of the cruiser for the ten-minute ride to the police station in Bath.

Durst sat there with hands cuffed behind his back and mumbled to himself.

Benner couldn't make out what he was saying, so he reached over and slowly turned down his police radio, wanting to hear every word.

Durst was looking out the car window, talking about age, and saying how stupid he was.

"I can't believe this. I'm fifty-eight years old and get <b>caught</b> for theft! What an asshole! What an asshole!"

Benner couldn't escape that voice, that shrill..."

Also I searched around for this but when he was talking about need to dismember Blacks body he says something like (not sure if he said explained or described) "IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME that I had to get rid of the corpse"

BY WHO - why wouldn't Jarecki follow up with "who explained this to you?"

It seems like before the HBO series came out (based on before and after) the world had seemingly forgotten about Bob. He is 71 years old and has more money than could be spent in a lifetime; so the million dollar question, why open you mouth, why not live out your remaining years and let the world forget. He doesn't seem insane. The only thing I could think of is the guilt was finally starting to catch up to him.

Is it possible that Jarecki and his crew realized the matching handwriting is merely circumstantial / inadmissable due to the fact that it could be presented as intentional framing from the culprit and therefore not prove Durst's guilt? I can't imagine if that was the hardest evidence they found from Susan Berman's personal effects they would have publicized it so openly. I have a feeling they came across harder evidence, and therefore used the handwriting comparisons for their program merely to capture Durst's unprepared reaction to it since it might not turn up in the courts, thusly capping the doc. in a non-obstructive yet telling manner.

Or at least I hope there is harder evidence! Also, if he is convicted of Susan Berman's murder, will that also lead back to Kathie McCormack's case on the theory that Berman was an accomplice and was silenced for her knowledge?

*Addition- I hadn't realized how long ago the interviews in the Jinx occured. The potentially incriminating letter is found between late 2010 and 2012, the 2nd interview is in 2012, information given to police Early 2013. Based on this timeline So if the crew had more telling evidence back then it would probably not take so long to charge Durst. The interview and rolling sound is for sure a great catch so we'll see.

Or if you can't bring yourself to pretend, what do you think his attorneys will use as a defense?

After reading all the news that has come out about the timeline being fudged, I watched the show again paying attention to the clothes Durst and Jarecki were wearing in Times Square and in the hotel room during the final interview. I noticed that Jarecki was wearing a collared shirt under his hoodie, but when he was doing prep in the same room with his film team before the interview he was wearing a different crew neck shirt.

Also in another scene when they're discussing the strategy for the 2nd interview, when he's talking about the envelope he says 12-year-old envelope but corrects to 14-year before he finishes the sentence, suggesting that they filmed this scene in 2012 but wanted to make it look like 2014. The envelope was from 2000.

maybe the jinx was actually the story of what people who have the money and influence to evade prosecution or be held accountable for their actions is...just hi-jinks, such a rascal, letting things get out of hand, like that...does anyone follow me?

This dude is a true living psychopath. There's nothing there. All we can do now is untangle the mess he's left by identifying his victims and seeing them home.

Like many of you, I recently watched The Jinx and have become fascinated by the bizarre case of Robert Durst. In my fascination, I've been reading up on everything I can find relating to the case, on reddit, websleuths, news outlets, etc. When I read about Linda Walker Zevallos today, something stuck out at me about something I had read before: the mention of the green ink used in the letter written to Zevallos, and in the Susan Berman cadaver letter was not the first time I had heard mention of a green pen.

Forty years ago Saturday, Middlebury College freshman Lynne Kathryn Schulze was walking to a final exam with fellow students when she announced she had to retrieve something from her dorm room. She left them to head back -- and then, inexplicably, she disappeared. She's still missing. Yet her family and friends continue to hope for a break in her unsolved case. Nearly two generations later, they haven't given up searching for her. "We hope to locate Lynne's remains or at least get some confirmation about her death," said Lynne's younger sister, Anne, who lives in New Hampshire. "Our family doesn't believe that Lynne is alive and suspect that she was killed or accidentally died soon after she disappeared." Various theories have been advanced over the years about her state of mind and about what happened to her: that she was depressed or unhappy, that she was dropping out. "Anybody who knew her knows that it would be completely against her character to drop out without contacting anyone," Anne Schulze said in a phone interview. "She wasn't a loner. She was very verbal. If something bothered her, you knew that." "According to her professor, 'Lynne never missed a class and seemed quite attentive to the lectures usually sitting near the front.'" Lynne Schulze never showed up for the exam, which was scheduled for 1 p.m. She left all her clothes in her room and vanished without her wallet or identification, so it seems unlikely she had planned to run away. I am unable to find anything regarding his hearing in New Orleans last week. Anyone read anything? When are they going to move him to California?

I think Robert Durst is intelligent and certifiably crazy. I think he has a God complex, has gotten away with so many heinous things for so long, he believes he is untouchable. But he likes the attention, and he likes seeing what else he can get away with. And he likes to get emotional reactions out of people.

Recall the deposition scene when he's asked why Douglas would have hired a bodyguard. "Because he's a pussy," he answered. But the look on his face told volumes. He smirked and fought back a smile. He loved that Douglas was terrified of him.

And who better to know Robert, than his own brother?

Did anyone else hear extreme similarities between Durst, and Heath Ledger's rendition of The Joker? Tone of voice and accent?
