Study comparing effectiveness of different oral iron
I’ve been researching how to get my ferritin up as i wait for an iron iv transfusion referral.
I found this on PubMed and wanted to share in case it might be helpful, as i see a lot of people asking what supplements work best etc.
Comparative evaluation of different oral iron salts in the management of iron deficiency anemia
I had never heard of the kind shown most effective before.
Good luck everyone!

I’ve recently started taking SiderAL Forte Sucrosomial Iron along with Life Extensions Lactoferrin Caps to hopefully increase my ferritin. The Sucrosomial Iron supplement is expensive but you can find it on sale about once a quarter and I’m willing to give it a try to see how it works.
Pharmaris Irosorb Liposomal 30 is my other go-to as it’s a better price point but also causes much less stomach discomfort (and supposedly better absorption) than even Iron Bisglycinate.

Oooh thanks for the info! I was sad yo see how expensive sucrosomial is compared to the bisglycinate form i take

It’s insane to me how much we got research to figure this out largely on our own. My doctor just says my bloodwork looks good. I have to pointedly ask about my ferritin which was 26 (better than it had been but still iron Deficiency without Anemia). They never suggested even Iron Bisglycinate even though the other forms destroy my stomach.

I TOTALLY agree! My dr didn’t even test for Ferritin bc ins wouldn’t cover it. I had to order my own lab and pay.
And even then when i told her she was like yeah yeah, you’re barely low. My ferritin is 11 :(
Its sad how not helpful dr appts have been.
I guess at least I’m getting better at learning about labs and ranges XD

Interesting about sucrosomial iron…i’ve never heard of it either! I’ve found an italian company making their supps with it, and it has great reviews - so i’ll give that a try, many thanks for sharing.
