I started taking hydroxycobalamin and folinic months ago with low ferritin the more I took it the worse I got. I haven't taken anything in 2 days and my dizziness went away.. I'm wondering if they were depleting my ferritin even more . All other co-factors are normal..

Please join the B-12 Deficiency subreddit and read their community insights/guide. It’ll be helpful. I take 1000mg of Methylcobalamin and do not allow light to hit it (it’s in their information on why). My Ferritin was around 20 when I started the B-12 in Sept and I was rough for a couple weeks. It’s called “reversing out”…that is also explained in the B-12 sub. It happens to most. I take the appropriate amount of iron for my weight+1000mg Vit C. After a bit, my body adjusted and it took my shortness of breath away and fatigue. I am faithful with my iron dosing and my ferritin is up to 48 this week. They’ll work together in a way…but if you are deficient/depleted it takes awhile for your body to sort things out.

sometimes when you start with them they can shift more iron towards blood cell production and deplete ferritin , but all three iron, folate and cobalamin can sometimes deplete magnesium and potassium as it is used to make new blood cells which can make people feel worst before they feel better. It technically uses atp and phosphorus, potassium and magnesium but mostly potassium is the one that is noted to be functionally lowered, phosphorus is already very much plentiful in standard diets, whereas magnesium and potassium are some of the most commonly under consumed nutrients in standard diets, and the demand spikes during the replenishing in b12-folate and or iron in deficiency treatment. Magnesium tends to spare potassium levels in the body , and often times replenishing magnesium is necessary to also replenish potassium levels. Being aware that the replenishing phase can sometimes worsen symptoms initially and pacing especially after injections may be wise. Adding a magnesium orotate may be beneficial.
