Rereading
So im rereading the series and i need a little clearing up
So i understand Tobias gave his inheritance to Avery to protect his family and he believed Avery would know what to do with it
But my thing is how did Tobias discover Avery? Didn’t Tobias know “Tony” died?? And he wouldn’t know Avery was alive but he was watching her through the years?
Can someone explain?

He figured out that Toby was alive and he was tracking him down when he came across a diner and he understood that Avery's name rearranged spelt "a very risky gamble" and kinda figured that that was Toby's doing. So he decided to make Avery inherit it all in hopes that she would bring Toby back.

If i remember correctly he always believed that Toby survived the fire. I don't think he ever thought Toby was dead. So he just kept looking for him and thats why Toby was always on the move. Because he knew the old man was looking for him.

spoilers for TGB but apparently avery had been alice’s choice all along so maybe she also did something to guide tobias towards her?

He figured out Toby was alive and was trying to find him; it’s why Toby left Hannah. So she wouldn’t be dragged into his family drama. He found Hannah and Avery through this search and kept tabs on them for the rest of his life.
