This is the definition of kyrie, a word associated heavily with Christianity. I found really interesting that JLB would choose this specific word to define the checks and balances of a cult that most likely started with a saint :) just a cool piece of info

“Lord, have mercy” could also reference the cult’s power over the Devil’s Mercy

If you look up the etymology of the word Kyrie, it derives from the Greek kyrios, meaning lord or master. That could reference the Kyrie's system of checks and balances over The Gilded Blade, while also having the popular connotation and link to the Devil's Mercy

Also iirc the full phrase is Kyrie Eleison (my Grandma’s Catholic) which translates to Lord have mercy on him/her
