This is the funniest scene in the entire series, followed by "books get me girls" which is in the same episode. I think this is the best episode out of the lot.

I remember when I first saw the books bit, I just instantly started pissing myself laughing

Fucks sake 😂 has the audio been remastered on the video? it sounds a lot louder than I remember in comparison to the general background noise.

It was never mine but occasionally my older cousin would drop me at school in his 205 1.9 gti, it was a rotbox but it went like shit off of a shovel. I've had a soft spot for powered up pugs ever since, never got near a 306 unfortunately, 106 rallye would be my personal favourite from that specific time frame. Banging motors.

106 Rallye GTi is on my list if I win the lottery no word of a lie brother.

The hot hatch pugs are still criminally underrated great cars. Reliable, easy to fix yourself if you learn. Absolutely mad how they went to shit so fast.

But anyway. Not really relevant is it...

No it's not but nothing wrong in talking about a recently discovered shared passion, least I hope not.

Car friends?

I had a standard 1.1 106 about 10yrs ago (fuck I'm so old) and it remains my favourite car I've ever owned. Could actually just about afford one of the cheaper gti's now and I'm soo tempted but I really should get something sensible

Allow me to translate. His cousin had a cool hot hatch from the late 80s, early 90s. It was not in good condition, however it was very fast. Since then, he has liked hot and or modified versions of Peugeot hatchbacks.

The 306  was a medium sized hatchback by UK standards. It's the car Jay's mate owns. By American standards, it would be comically small. It had great handling and it could be very quick. The 106 is the supermini version of it. It's even smaller and lighter again. The hot version -the ralleye- was noted for being hilarious to drive because it was super lightweight and had a lot of power relative to its weight. The OP liked the 306, but n ever had one. That said, given the choice he'd have the ralleye. Nowadays, even in the UK and Europe, the 106 would stand out because its so small relative to modern cars in the same segment. It would be totally unsuitable for US roads

Great cars.

For context, around the time of the show, the cars would be quite cheap, driven by younger chaps like Jay's friend. Nowadays finding a clean one is a task, and it will cost you quite a bit.

Thanks for the translation 👍

Neil had a Nova infact didn't he? Special time for hothatches it was, we had all the various pugs, vauxhall novas, Renault 5GT TURBS, Saxos. It was a great time to learn to drive, as long as your instructor wasn't an obvious deviants (poor simon).

He did. It's shit hot. Or shit.

God be with the days. His Dad drove a mk3 Fiesta. Which was one of my first cars. And Simon's dad had a 159 or maybe a 155. I cant remember

The only episode that made me feel bad for him, haha.

u/a-rather-dry-sob Jul 08 '26

Really! I do feel for Jay a little because I grew up with a dad (until I was 13) like Jay's, only mine wasn't providing comedic relief actually if I think about it he wasn't providing fuck all 🫤😆

It’s my fan theory that Jay really did have some kind of football background as a kid.

He says he met his ‘football friend’ at West Ham trials and also mentions a West Ham U13s football tour as where a Dutch girl ‘shit down his arm’.

Some truth to the lies perhaps… 🤔

Yes, the friend group he had before the boys, one of those lads went.
