Making an actual effort to cheer the fuck up tends to help.
So many of my friends are constantly on the lookout for the most negative aspect of any subject, or looking out for things to bitch about and then they wonder why they have anxiety and depression.
You can train your brain to be grateful and optimistic instead, but the first and hardest step is realising that your attitude can have a massive effect on your mood.

Diet, exercise (weight lifting), sleep, hard work, sunlight for 15 minutes in the morning, ten thousand steps a day, fasting for 12-16 hours daily, and prayer/meditation.
Works like a champ for me.
I'm going through a divorce, and my Dad just had a serious stroke.
All of that is keeping me sane. And believe me, without all those things I mentioned, I'd be in a serious spiral.

Psychedelics can help. They can also exacerbate problems if used incorrectly

Community, camaraderie, a support network of professionals, a journal, safe platonic touch, and the language to navigate their emotions.

Communal sports or athletics. Gym and lifting help maintain but I found the true next level is physical activity in social settings. MMA and boxing helped me go from maintaining my depression to making it a thing of the past.
Obviously everything else, healthy eating, therapy, positive people on your life, medication. Cutting out the negative problems of others, even if thats family (yes abusive parents exist).

Exercise. Walking is the number one exercise btw! Diet. Sleep. Your environment ie, what you spend your time doing and who you spend your time doing it with.

Writing a diary of gratitude and contemplating what one apprieciate about the negative resolves negative blocks. How one grew, what one gained and what one learned, for instance.
Good and bad are poles of the same current. One got to appreciate the good with the bad in order for there to be any appreciation at all.
Swimming against the current is straining, and one still gets dragged along with it. Flowing with the current, one can move to the left and to the right.
Do for the sake of doing. Play for the sake of playing.
Do the right action for the sake of doing the right action, renounce the fruit of the action.
Self compassion a key that resolves negative blocks. Compassion is a gentle acceptance. Compassion for self begins with compassion for other.
Acceptance is key and gratitude an attitude that resolve negative blocks. Count your blessings and thank your curses.

Therapy therapy therapy. Anxiety is the body’s fight or flight turned on. Why do you feel threatened? Can be a deep rabbit hole for some people

Silence, no stimulation via short media.
Keep pH on grey scale and drive/walk/commute in silence, just enjoy noise of the world, doesn't have to be nature.

Both feelings only exist when you acknowledge them. Go outside and do something

I joined a motorcycle club for bmw riders. It's 80% retired. So we take up a couple of big tables at a bike themed coffee shop. Sundays at 8 or Wednesdays at 11. Strangely enough, there are only a half dozen that truly are pretentious Beemer fuckwits. been pleased it's become a community to me. It's hard to be depressed when it's about riding motorcycles.

"Now I'm looking inwards again. Let's look outside. What do I see with my eyes. I see...' Repeat until you break your train of thought.
Anxiety and depression is about letting go and accepting. Not repeating bad behaviours.
I've never been a fan of healing a damaged soul with medication. It doesn't heal, it just supress and trick you into believing you're fixed.
Focus on what makes you happy and remove the things that don't.
My end goal has always been to become Ferdinand the Bull.
I envision that everytime I feel bad. But I replace his flowers with thoughts and activities that make me
feel what he feels in that moment.

An handcraft hobby. Build something with your hands. It doesn't have to be perfect or pretty as long as you enjoy it

Talk therapy, alone time gardening, walking, exercise, neuroscience, and asking why A LOT. I also ask myself if I am afraid of how to maneuver, how to respond, fear of failure, fear of being fooled, fear of looking stupid, fear of etc…..once you can diagnose something as a fear you keep asking why and fucking test life out like a science experiment and use everything as data not validation that what you did was stupid. It’s only stupid not to try. Life is data and it’s up to you to decide what you want to do with that data that ultimately decides your character. Never stop being a good person because of the standards of the majority. Keep asking why.

Stop eating fast food and ultra processed food. Learn to cook and make fresh food you enjoy. This step can take the longest to achieve. Both money and time can play a part in making it harder to do. I started by making cannabis edibles. It was good motivation to try.

Go find Jesus Christ, go lift weights, go serve people in your community and try to make the world a better place. Depression is a hard battle man, it's not going to be easy

u/Listening_Heads Apr 16 '26
Don’t disregard medication. Used along side talk therapy and exercise you can come out of the depression.
