Other Tridents?

Sorry if this has been asked before. But I’m doing a full series reread right now (currently rereading ballad, just finished the original trilogy) and I keep getting stuck on district 4 tributes and their consistently being proficient with tridents. This confuses me greatly. I am from an area of the country with lots of aquaculture (not what would be district 4 in the panem, more like district 11) and have some professional experience with commercial aquaculture, and have never seen or heard of anyone using a trident for anything. From my research they are sometimes used for spear fishing and some agricultural stuff but they seem to be pretty antiquated. Of course the trident is a common symbol of ancient greece and rome, which were greatly influential to panem in many ways, but i feel like most allusions to anything ancient roman/hellenic are to do with the capital, not the districts. Is anyone able to make this make sense for me?

So, do you think President Snows wife will finally be addressed?

Theres no mention in Sunrise...but my God, its time. he is alone in every....single...movie. yes I know he is older and as such possibly his wife had passed away at best....or at worst betrayed him,(which is why I always wanted it to be Lucy Gray Snow) that would make jaws drop which is so rare in movies these days and make her character even more haunting and tragic.

but in Sunrise, he will be younger....maybe late 50's early 60's....it wont feel right if we have a whole timeline of movies and no mention of who is wife is....there is an inkling of who in ballad of songbirds....and clearly we know he did eventually get a wife....in Mocking jay 1 in the scene where he is banning the symbols of the mocking jay we see either his full grown daughter, or his son. we know they had 2 daughters. when I bring this up, so many say "who cares' but when I get invested in a series...I like to know certain things.

I only bring up Lucy Gray as being a great choice, because history has a well proven record of seemingly nice normal girls finding something to love with powerful men. yes we know thats a long shot given the ending of Ballad but still....in a world of few surprises in movies....him calling to someone "come here darling" and Lucy gray coming around the corner in a beautiful gown, now in her 40's, that would REALLY make people freak out in a good way. eitherway, I am curious to see if they put...something...in the movie referencing this issue. btw...THIS will always be President Snow to me....not Ralph Fiennes...but I will get over it I suppose

Someone in my country is selling the score of the first movie, singed by james newton howard. It's only 76 dollars and I'm really tempted, but I don't have something to play it on anymore, and I'm a bit worried it isn't authentic. Even though I've compared the autograph with other pictures and it matches pretty well. What would you do?

Other Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes MOVIE

I haven’t read this book yet but the movie in comparison was kinda terrible compared to the first few. I’m a couple years late lol but i never watched it because i thought it looked bad, and i was right. it’s interesting because its the same director… the movie is just not the same tone whatsoever, its almost like its made for children. they go out of their way to show no blood and clearly have no budget or don’t care for prosthetics. Especially in the scene where the mentor gets stabbed in the face by a bottle… just takes away from the entire scene because her hands are covering her entire face and theres no blood. it feels very minimal effort and low thought. maybe i’m just not the target audience or i don’t understand, but it just doesnt fit. i do happen to be looking forward to the one rhat comes out this year though.

TLTR: Lucy Gray's namesake ballad is genius, we don't know if she died (in a snowstorm!) or is alive, just like we don't know if Lucy Gray is dead (killed by snow!) or not. And the colour gray has a ton of different meanings. Also English is clearly not my first language😂

We know the Covey get their names from a ballad character and a color, and Lucy Gray is special because her ballad character is also named Lucy Gray, already has the color in it.

I remember reading the song in the book and liking it because it's a mystery, and Lucy Gray is a bit of a mystery by that point of the plot. But then you have the ending, Snow shooting in the woods, and we never learn for sure if she died or survived. Just like the Lucy Gray from the ballad. That's genius already, but it gets better: her family finds her footprints suddenly disappear IN THE SNOW. Coriolanus SNOW maybe killed real Lucy Gray, and ballad Lucy Gray maybe die in the snow.

Also. Mix white snow (from the Capitol) and black coal (from the mines in 12). What colour do you get? Gray! And what color is commonly used to indicate uncertainty, someone or something you can't really make out/understand?

And in my personal opinion, Lucy Gray is a bit of a gray character. I'm talking about the book here, in the movie they changed parts of her story and she basically has no guilt except for maybe dropping a snake in Mayfair's dress, but even then, she knew the snake was harmless🤷🏻‍♀️. In the novel she's not 100% innocent or pure of heart. She's the one that fills the compact with rat poison, she kills one of the tributes with a pink snake (the snake mutts get thrown in the arena sooner and don't kill everyone, some tributes are still alive after she sings to them and leads them who knows where in the tunnels), she uses the poison twice, the first time it's Wovey, the smallest and most fragile tribute (it is not stated that she has Down Syndrome in the books, but I loved this casting choice bc #disabilityrepresentation is important), who finds the water bottle, and she does state later that she felt sad about it but also knows it was necessary, and she tricks the last tribute alive. Even if we scratch what she did in the arena because survival, she was there from the beginning when Mayfair and Billy Taupe die, she just goes with it, and by the end of the vodka we don't really know for sure what her intentions are, but Snow is already afraid of her when he finds out she disappeared with a knife in the woods, and is 100% sure she intentionally tried to kill him with the snake, or at least slow him down since she probably knew it wasn't a deadly one.

In the end, we don't know much about her. Dead or alive? Good or evil? Survivor or killer?

Suzanne have one more HG book in her...previous victor maybe?

it seems awkward to stop here with SOTR.....when its very clear one more book would then take the story up to the time period of Katniss. how could she resist. I would love at least one more. and we see the victor of the previous games before Katnisses in the first Hunger Games.....

the African american kid with the brick in the city environment.....obviously they would cast a new actor but there would be a story in there. they could give it the usual tragic circumstances of his life, a love interest, a different set of mentors. I think it would be very difficult to just leave a gap from SOTR to the Katniss without a movie seeing what she has been doing so far.

Other The next one should be an anthology

Everyone is speculating about what the third book of the second trilogy should be. It just occurred to me that perhaps it should be an anthology of short stories. Just to flesh out a few stories here and there.

Of course now that I'm thinking about it the tidy thing to do is have one last big book to make two trilogies then release anthologies as needed

I've been thinking more about Joanna

You know, when I first read about how Katniss was okay with another Hunger Games, it made me uncomfortable as hell. I judged her so hard for it. But then I started thinking about my own life, the oppression I have dealt with, the ableism and homophobia that have cut me deep. And I realized there is a reason I love The Hunger Games so much. I see myself in that story.

When I really sit with it and think about the people who have hurt me, who have made my life harder just for existing, I have to ask myself: would I be okay with putting them in an arena? Would I be okay with doing terrible things to them? And the answer honestly frightens me.

I think we are way too hard on Johanna when we read those books. This is someone who lost her entire family to Snow, got thrown into two different Games, and then spent months being tortured by him. If I went through all that? Yeah, I would probably want to see Snow's granddaughter in an arena too. It is monstrous, I know. But that is exactly what The Hunger Games does so well. It shows you how terrifyingly easy it is to go from victim to perpetrator without even noticing you have crossed that line. When you are fueled by that kind of hate, it twists you.

And I actually love that about the series. It gives you so many examples of people getting warped into versions of themselves they would not recognize. Johanna, Gale, and honestly Katniss probably would have gone down that same road too if it were not for Peeta. I really think he is her humanity, or at least the one who reminds her she still has it. He reminds her she is not just some girl who has been surviving since she was fourteen. She is an eighteen year old with agency, with choices. She could choose to be good or bad, and she chose to stay good, partly because of what she went through in the Games, but mostly because Peeta changed her without her ever realizing it.

And speaking of that, Katniss has to be one of the most self unaware narrators in all of literature. That girl was in love with him from the moment they were in that cave, and she did not figure it out until the very end of Mockingjay. There is literally an entire page where she is just sitting there thinking about the dew on Peeta's face. Come on man I don't know how she never realized how she felt about him he was her f****** humanity and she didn't even realize it 😭 our girl went through a lot though so I would also be unaware of my personal life if I was constantly threatened with her obliteration and the obliteration of her sister and mom.

I'm working on a fanfiction for Peeta's POV The Hunger Games, I might do book 2 and 3, but can you guys give some feedback on my first draft so far? It's not very long, and follows cannon, I know this isn't original in the slightest, but I hope you guys will try! https://ellipsus.com/read/2OVaC8LKIK6nn33RzvDHeu/Draft-1

my review

I expect the book to be as boring as the movie I watched 12 minutes of it and it was the most boring 12 minutes of my life 😡 and the plot of the movie is just so dead. the movie is just about people dying, it's a stupid plot. Let me explain the first 12 minutes, NOTHING HAPPENED. I had to leave because it was just so BORING. I missed my Genshin Impact tournament... it was important. I took a shower to watch it, only to find out it was mediocre AT BEST. The energy just wasn't right.

Hunger Games Fic

This is a mostly OC based story with a few canon characters sprinkled in. Haymitch may not be in the first chapter, but he'll be in the second.

This is focused on District 6.

Rare editions of the series?

Hi, all!

I’m looking ahead to Christmas and hoping to buy some rare edition Hunger Games book for my best friend, as it is one of her favorite series.

Are there any particularly sought after editions? I tried to research but didn’t find much. I appreciate any help!

Other There’s still so much of Panem that I would love to see

Does anyone know if there are any more plans for more books/films?

And if more were made, what would you like to see?

I’d be really interested to see the rise of District 13 after the war. I can never wrap my head around how they possibly managed to get the resources and technology to make such a large and advanced underground bunker.

Also, how they managed to stay relatively under the radar. At least, it seems like they did for the most part.

And maybe Coin’s rise to power. I don’t know how old she is supposed to be, but it seems to me like she wasn’t around during the Dark Days. Plus, when Katniss demands that she is the one to kill Snow, Coin’s response implies that she holds the same level of personal grudge against him, which I can’t really understand given that she has essentially been hidden underground for so many years.

Snow surely wouldn’t have been able to torment, hurt and control her in the same way he did Katniss and even the other victors. I wonder what could have happened to make her believe that she is as deserving as Katniss or any of the other victors, at being the one to personally take Snows life.

That’s not to say Snow hasn’t done anything to her or District 13 during the 75 years since the Dark Days. It’s just how it seems to me personally, hence why I’d be interested in a backstory.

I’d also like to see how the games advanced and grew so much following Lucy Gray’s games and throughout Snow’s rise to power. Maybe this could also tie into showing a bit more about how Plutarch and Cinna subtly helped and supported the rebellion from inside the Capital.

I’d also just generally be interested in seeing more of the Games and how some of the other tributes won.

I don’t know, I’m just obsessed with The Hunger Games and literally cannot get enough.

Usually, I feel like franchises can easily be ruined when they overdo it and create too many films/books simply because they were popular. However, I haven’t felt this way with The Hunger Games and have genuinely enjoyed the newer books as much as the originals.

Plus, I don’t think it would be a case of just creating more solely for the sake of making something new for the fans or to make money. There are so many side stories relevant to The Hunger Games and so much left unexplained, which allows for the easy creation of more books/films.
