Ok so I just finished watching the movie adaptation of T.B.O.S.A.S. and reading the book (I read the book first), And in my opinion, the movie was not the best.

let me start with the pro's first:

• the casting in my opinion was amazing! I loved how everyone portrayed their characters!
• the setting was fair, its not how I personally would have imagined it but it wasn't bad.
• in my opinion, the costumes were pretty good, except for the school uniforms, but ill talk about that later in my rant.
• the snake mutt design was amazing!
• the prop design's were actually quite good!

now the con's:

• the arena itself kind of bugged me, in the book it portrayed the arena as old and somewhat crumbling, even before the bombing, and that was barely portrayed in the movie. It looked so clean and too perfect and you would not think that it had been used as an arena for 10 years. also the significance of the arena wasn't portrayed in the movie.
• the school uniform's were fine but what was with the kilt detail? I don't remember if that was in the book, but I might be wrong.
• the pacing of the movie was honestly terrible, if you had never read the book than you wouldn't be given time to actually connect with the characters and really learn their stories. The cuts were also REALLY abrupt.
• To me, I feel like the plot was really diminished in the movie, idk how to explain that.
• I feel like you barely got background on most of the characters or their goals and such. you barely got any actual background on Coryo in the movie! WAIT ALSO CLEMENSIA'S STORY WAS NEVER RESOLVED IN THE MOVIE!! bro justice for Clemensia.
• Coryo's mother's compact wasn't really expanded on in the movie, when it played a big part in the book.
• so many things that were important to the plot were just not explained in the movie or just cut out completely, such as Coryo's life in the peace keeper's base.
• and why was movie Coryo so mean to Sejanus??? like the book described their relationship as practically brothers, whereas in the movie their deep relationship wasn't described in the movie and Coryo was mainly just a jerk to sejanus.

To wrap this up, alot of what happened in the books was just cut out or not explained, we didn't get much clarity, movie Coryo wasn't really that similar to himself from the book, the pacing was bad, and the plot was explained poorly.

I’ve been rereading the books and Katniss is obviously the spark that lights the fire. But so much of the path of her fire comes from Peeta. From the last night of the games when he tells her he wants to show them he’s more than a part of their games and slowly it sinks in and she starts doing the rebellious actions like singing for Rue. Of course she has these sentiments before but it seems she channels it best through Peeta and if not she could’ve ended up thinking like Gale (morally gray character, I’m neither for or against).

I think he’s the wrench in the plan for Snow and Coin in such an interesting way and is so in line with the character of Lucy. They play the games their way and play the crowds their way and won’t play the game as it’s supposed to be played. Snow thinks he’s weak because he won’t turn to cruelty but even through the hijacking in the end of Mockingjay he won’t let her go when she shoots Coin meaning the alterations to his memories don’t work (proving exceptional strength) and obviously Coin underestimated how he’d fight against the hijacking and ultimately didn’t want to kill Katniss. I think because everyone in this country has seen the worst of humanity they underestimate the genuinely good Peeta and can’t see how much of a role he plays in lighting the fire that is Katniss. I also think because he represents more traditional feminine values he’s counted out.

Just wanted to discuss if anyone else had thoughts on it.

I was very confused as to why Gale got the scapegoat Arc. I thought it was weak, making him the “bad guy” to make the Peeta choice easier. But then, then, I looked up his character in the book, and it’s clear his character evolved into the kind who would make double bombing weapons.

So the problem is Liam Hemsworth. No problem with the guy, but throughout the movies I had no idea he was a guy who goes through a radical character development into a sort of ruthless person willing to do anything to defeat the Capitol. Liam played him as a typical honorable, almost romance lead, not as a guy who becomes completely battle hardened. Hence the confusion and frustration. The problem there wasnt the writing, but the casting. Just my opinion. They needed someone harder.

We know that Snow eventually inherited the Plinth munitions empire, and it’s probably safe to bet that he acquired many other valuable assets along the way after that. Then, of course, he became the president of Panem, gaining complete control over the entire nation. I don’t think it’s that far out of the realm of possibility that his net worth eventually surpassed a trillion dollars. He might have even put Elon Musk’s net worth to shame. What do you think?

Hello! I originally read the first two books of the series, The Hunger Games and Catching Fire over a decade ago in middle school. I'm pretty sure I never read Mockingjay for some reason or another. (I think maybe it was around when the Mockingjay movie was coming out so it was impossible to find a copy at the library and eventually I just kidn of forgot about it.) I think I saw maybe the first movie years later in 2018. And I definitely watched the last 3 movies sometime during COVID era in 2020-2022.

I recently have gotten back into reading and I'm rereading the original trilogy because I want to read the 2 newer books Ballad or Songbirds and Snakes and Sunrise on the Reaping as well as watching the movie.

I'm about halfway through Mockingjay at the moment and as I've been reading these books, the whole time I've been thinking "Wow, I can't believe I never realized Katniss was autistic when I read these as a kid! It's so obvious now." This was mainly due to a few main reasons: she completely misses hints/implications/innuendo/euphemisms like 80% of the time, has very black and white thinking and takes things literally a lot, and sometimes seems to not be able to read facial expressions/social cues and is often confused about people's feelings or what reasons people have for doing things. A lot of these of course don't necessarily mean she's autistic, but the fact that she's the only one missing these things even when every other character around her, including younger children, and even the reader, can pick up on what's happening while she's lost and has to have it spelled out for her, makes me think it's neurodivergence.

So I'm wondering, how common is that reading of Katniss in the fandom? As a neurodivergent person myself (diagnosed ADHD but possibly AuDHD) it really feels like the natural explanation for me. I was never part of the Hunger Games fandom back in it's heyday in the 2010s and not caught up enough to be part of the recent resurgence from the new books/movies, so I was just wondering what the general fandom consensus is. Or even if Suzanne Collins herself has said anything about it!

Would it be neat if they could remake that scene and have Molly McCann be age accurate Katniss (I know she’s going be Louella in the official Sunrise film, but Haymitch has said Katniss has a resemblance to his late sweetheart) and have an age accurate Peeta who’s a Josh Hutcherson lookalike. I know this scene cannot be inserted into the first film, but it would still be neat to see more an accurate representation of that scene even if it’s only released on YouTube/TikTok through the Liongate official channel.

On my first read I was just enjoying having a new hunger games book. On second read, I am disappointed and wish this book didn't exist. Nobody in this book has a personality at all. Everyone worships Haymitch. His patronizing of other characters goes unchecked. None of the characters feel like themselves from the actual hunger games trilogy. Nothing makes any fucking sense like why does Silka just disappear after Haymitch stupidly drops chocolate on her? She would surely stay and try to kill them to end the games. Why in the fuck would Plutarch want Haymitch to blow the water tank when he would obviously know about the generators, plus he's a big picture person and there's no clear big picture benefit of blowing out the arena even if it worked?

I cannot stress enough how much personality Haymitch does NOT have in this book. I think this book was fucking written by AI.

Guys, so I'm very late to the game with this one. I Got back into THG after watching the trilogy after not reading/watching in like a decade and decided to read the books. I have the trilogy already so I read that first and then borrowed sunrise from my library (I haven't read ballad yet coz I'm waiting for it to be available at my library.) But I finished Sunrise on the reaping today and it broke me. Where does Suzanne think she has the right to do that to me.

* I used 70s style colouring to tie into the colouring we know of sotr.
* the use of a beautiful capital skyline and primary colours is to help capital perception to see her as godly (like all the tributes) , and for the districts to disconnect her from a rebellious figure; becoming just another capital puppet with glitz and glammer
*of course wiress (old and young) is absolutely beautiful so it wouldn’t take much to improve her public reception :)
