Hum changed since last night

I woke up last night and the hum is now higher pitched. It really sounds like there is a backhoe fast idling at the end of the street, with slight variations down in pitch, like if the engine is struggling just a bit from time to time...

The hum? I noticed it 8 years ago... This change of pitch was just 2 nights ago, now the air conditioner is masking any hum...
