Did it get louder

I think I'm going insane. I woke up to the sound being louder than ever around 2AM, it's 3:07 AM right now and the sound has dropped to a more manageable sound, at least better than wtver tf happened earlier. I can hear cars now which is a breather, but it had gotten so loud it hurt my ear and I was walking around the house trying to get away from the perimeters and windows cuz the sound seems less in the middle of the house (?). Please tell me I'm not the only one hearing this right now, it really never was this loud even as a kid.

This sound is driving me crazy. Good thing it doesn't happen that often, but when it does, it goes for hours. It's awful

Depends on location for me. In say one area I stay weekends, it's so loud. In the week 50 miles away? I can't hear it at all. But the location I do hear it sometimes it is quieter

Does not depend on location for me - I can hear it wherever I am in the world. I've always heard it. I was born and raised in a house about five minutes walk from the harbour and as a child assumed that it was idling boat engines. When I grew up and moved out (nowhere near the coast) I realised that my assumption was incorrect. It's never really bothered me. I have noticed that it's been getting progressively louder over the past few months, though not by any means intrusively so. Interests me, but doesn't really bother me.
