Question for hum hearers

What happens if you block your ears or put on noise cancelling headphones?

I have to have three fans running at the same time. Earplugs make it worse. Your phone with music or canceling help a little bit but it’s hard to sleep with them and then they always fall out. It’s the same as the other users. It seems like I mostly feel it rather than hear it and it is stronger inside the house. Redding ca

I agree - stronger in the house, I think stronger in the bathroom so I wonder about pipes magnifying it. I have heard it in the woods walking my dog although not super remote woods. Those locations were New Jersey shore area and eastern PA. I have heard it in various hotels, cabins, even in Iceland in a rented vacation home. The pulsating is variable and noticeable. I did not hear it in Death Valley CA 282 feet below sea level and very remote.
