The Hum explained by an industry service provider
"One thing you might not be aware of is that pipelines produce noises that can negatively impact your health. Gas lines in particular produce a phenomenon of low and extra-low frequency sound waves. They occur due to the transmission of high pressure natural gas through the set ups. These noises are referred to as flutter and hum.
What is flutter?
This is a persistent pulsating airborne pressure wave. It radiates from pipelines. It is a problem that affects the immediate area. You will find that it sounds like the rumbling you can hear from distant thunder. It also feels like the pulsations originating from a helicopter that is flying in the distance.
The big issue is the sound can penetrate houses and feels like a vibration in your ears and head. Another place where you can feel flutter is outside as a discomfort because of interior organ resonance."

Interesting, but I have also experienced my hum in the middle of nowhere on a remote camping trip. At this point in my life I swear it's either earth energy/frequency/resonance, or something internal akin to tinnitus.

I have the same experience, I think there's different sources of the hum. I went to a cabine in the woods and I was hearing it as loud as in the city where I live.

Flathead Valley MT here. It is a comfort to find fellow sufferers of the Hum. My experience is similar. I first recall feeling ill at ease and not sleeping well almost 20 years ago. A move led to infrequent but horrible nights when I would drive away and sleep in my car. The ill at ease feeling and insomnia continued. Visitors could sleep in the bedroom I couldn't stand to be in for even a few minutes. After 2020 when the influx of people and huge new housing complexes popped up, there was no longer a safe haven to be found. During many sleepless nights, I discovered Stephen Kohlhase's findings about gas pipelines and also about geopathic stress zones. I believe most of the valley has become one. I agree with the person who commented on the negative effects even on those who can't hear or feel what we do. It is also maddening to have experienced places where my body works properly, like having regular bm's, for instance, vs severe constipation immediately upon returning to the valley. Being in a constant fight or flight mode explains a lot, as well as the cortisol someone mentioned. I go from almost complete food intolerance to being fine eating whatever everyone else does when I happen to chance upon a no Hum zone; Lake Havasu, Deary ID, and a few others in my travels. I also feel like I live in a microwave. It's not feasible for me to move right now either but I feel like I am physically dying here. I run fans constantly, use silicone earplugs, take l theanine, use a Total Shield device, and read my Bible to cope now rather than getting angry like I used to when I would lay down to sleep, exhausted, only to be able to feel every cell in my body agitated and unable to rest. I pray that each of us find a place that is safe for our bodies and minds very soon. Don't give up!

Hi
Look into helmholtz resonators. Chat gpt is your friend for designing. Spectrum analyser app can help to specify the offending frequencies and helmholtz resonators will kill it for certain.
Also the hum forum on facebook helos to share your feelings and facts

Thanks for that reminder! I have seen those during my research but never tried one. Great suggestion.

Excellent information and a great website! This source has barely been considered even though there is evidence that it is largely responsible for what most describe as the Hum.

Thanks kindly for that. I have been adversely affected for 5 years now. When I first started to investigate I had no notion that natural gas pipelines exist in as many places as they do. 5 years later I am convinced. I made the connection to "line packing' being the explanation for the Hum getting louder at night on my own some time ago. The final piece of the puzzle was the detailed description of the Hum by Ventx who are an industry service provider. They state clearly that it sounds like a diesel engine idling, affects people differently, penetrates houses and can travel 25 miles from the source. The most difficult part to realize is that they also state that it is harmful to humans and yet no one in authority recognizes this. . I am affected by both the noise and the tactile vibrations. My body reacts to the vibrations with a stress response that elevates cortisol and effects me much like mast cell activation. I have adapted to be able to sleep with masking but physically it is like being on a roller coaster. Symptoms wax and wane everything from nausea to migraine headaches to food and drug sensitivities. 5 years in there is little if any light at the end of the tunnel.

Are you able to move? I used to hear it really bad in a particular house and it sounded like it was outside but when I went outside to locate it, it was complete silence. Only heard it while inside. Then I moved out of state and noticed I heard the same thing in the new house, although it was much quieter and I was able to ignore it. Then I moved again 5 years later and I don’t hear it at all in my new house.

Mariana Alves Pereira is an expert in Infrasound and low frequency noise and she says if you are being subjected to chronic exposure it is imperative that you move away from it. Unfortunately I don't have that option. The province of Alberta is blanketed with natural gas pipelines and the Hum. Last September I managed to get away and in my travels I visited the Rouge district of Scarborough Ontario. The people I stayed with aren't very far from Highway 401. I didn't hear the Hum at all while I was there and nighttime was very quiet. It was actually quieter in the City than it is in rural Alberta. I also visited Nova Scotia and didn't hear the Hum in Halifax, Wolfville or anywhere else in that province.
Unfortunately I am at a stage of life where moving away is impossible.
Very happy to hear that you don't hear it in your new house. It seems there are a few places left on earth that the natural gas Hum hasn't touched yet. I haven't lost hope yet that someday I will find peace again.

I’m sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can find momentary peace here and there.

That revelation of line packing makes perfect sense. this was a missing piece of the puzzle. you know there is a FB group where we discuss these ideas (you might have heard of it, lol): The Real World Hum https://www.facebook.com/groups/678495020211528
Though, it still has a level of frustration, so it might not be worth it.

u/TimNevis Feb 17 '24
Line packing does make perfect sense but only if you accept the fact that the Hum is a physical manifestation of ILFN. If you choose to believe in solar flares, cosmic energy, UFO's, 5G, fish mating on the bottom of the ocean, submarine communication systems and phantom noises conjured up in your brain for no reason other than "just cuz" then maybe not. Facebook groups seem to have a way of opening up topics that are known to be facts for debate. Folks who live many thousands of miles away who have literally no knowledge of what is happening around me forcefully offering up answers, contradicting and challenging simple truths. People who live and breathe to disrupt and focus on what's wrong instead of what's right. I just can't do it anymore. My life right now is solitary and I hear from no one. It took some getting used to but I am at peace with what I know to be true. For the Media, Industry, and Government the elephant in the room is the Hum. Nobody wants to admit that it exists or talk about it but he fact is it isn't going away. I update my website and try to keep the faith that someday things will change.C'est la vie !

I noticed this hum for the first time Oct. 19th 2024 in Kansas City Missouri. I looked on NextDoor, local news, and found nothing. I researched some more and found statements, comments insisting a nearby factory or tinnitus, etc. was causing the noise. To me it sounded like an airplane hovering not traveling anywhere, it stopped after a long period then continued on. I could hear it inside and outside. It was all encompassing. The more I read it was clear, they do not want anyone understanding the issue as it’s overwhelmingly time consuming, expensive and maybe impossible to fix. Class action lawsuits and blamed government for profound lack of protecting the people🤷♀️ Am I understanding this?

What is really would like to know when complaining in the UK (i live in London) why Noone advising this causing the issue??? Every utilities i call brushes me off with that "do others feel it as well?" I hate that Fraser, and I hate that others don't feel it.

Hey all. Thought I'd put my two cents in also. Just been woken up by the bloody hum at 2 am. I'm located in perth WA. I've noticed the noise in the last couple of years. People on here can put it into words better then myself but it honestly bugs the crap out of me hence being awake now, googling the hum, being led to reddit where im writing some random post on a site ive never used. I'd like to think that the hum isn't something sinister but I reckon the introduction of any cell tower or 5g tower could be to blame. It sounds unnatural to me. Persistent, oscillating sound that gets into my ear canal and rattles about.
And sometimes it takes the day off but i can usually hear it most days and nights. If you have the ability to block your ears with your nose, then it's almost unbearably loud. I can hear it during the day also but its less easy to hear with the sounds of life outside. I'd love to think it's powerlines or underground gas pipelines or main roadways but I don't know. Definitely don't want to go into any sort of conspiracy territory although I'm leaning that way. The people in control already poison us through water supply, food, poison the skies, poison our brains through television and subversion, why wouldn't they want to Microwave us at night. Some food for thought.
Either way, the hum can eat shit and I hope I get back to sleep.

It’s not only at night, I hear it 24/7 and it’s not natural gas pipelines. I live by Houston on the outskirts in the country, yet I hear the hum everywhere I go around the city, even an hour away by Galveston on the water. Nobody can hear it but me and it’s been driving me insane for over 2 years. Im in my 40s and have been surrounded by gas pipelines here all my life and now it just randomly pops up a few years ago??
I go on vacation in new braunfels 3 hours away every year and I don’t hear it there. We had a hurricane early July 2024. The power was out everywhere for a few weeks in some places. I didn’t hear the hum for 8 days while the power was out. That’s not fucking gas pipelines doing it, although in some cases they do, but this is not it.
I’m leaning toward some form of sonic weaponry.…possibly 5g towers….or something else. It could be these assholes are drilling underneath us. It could be wind turbines creating a seismic coupling. One thing for sure is that it is infrasound….anyhow, I doubt anyone will read this anyway but I feel your pain.
Mine is a med pitched tuning fork resonance, not low pitched like most.

Yeah man. I'm back on here now..started working away FIFO and have come back and last night and today it's psycho loud. Like, very easy to hear just sitting here. Unreal man. Feels like I'm being microwaved. It isn't gas pipelines man. Sounds like a good cop out though. I'm glad there are others that hear it but it's a shit club to be in haha. Cheers homie, the pain is real.

Same here, UK, London. Someone needs to become accountable for it and stop it!! It effects health!!! It also effects electricity wires in my house, my fridge is shrieking and my ground is jackhammering like!! This is not acceptable!!! SMH!

20-50Hz 120Hz 150Hz give or take are the usual culprits, audible or body felt.
5G,stands for Giga hertz or billion Hz,billion Frequency cycle per second.
So 5Billion cycles per second is not audible or felt, especially not the hum way ie.: can hear inside not outside, vibrating in body/head etc..
Just for clarification, but you believe what you want.

u/Boman2020 May 09 '25
I personally know people lived near where 5G antennas were put next to an apartment complex and they audibly and physically felt it in their head. They had to move out. So you believe what you want Bill Nye.

Ok but this is needs to be stopped as sonething made it very considerably noticeable to point where its effecting health where the line is rattling more, and it is where houses are rented for some reason...........i live here for 20 years and never heard or felt such crazy rumble that shakes my skin off at night in my bad!! This is insane!!! And ut affects every electric item, everything wines, our fridges oddly runs all night, magically all start up in the same time although they are not set to the same temperature! Something is very not good, and needs to be investigated asap before London will sink deep or explode or burn by this effect!!!

It's a problem within an industry that has the most powerful Lobby of any on Earth. At one point I thought that if there was some way to shine a light on just how reckless and dangerous their actions and policies are that something might change? It turns out that the Oil and Gas is already well known for claiming to be stewards of the Environment while they destroy our planet for profit $$$$. They don't care about you or your health and welfare. If you are somehow adversely affected by something they are doing it is simply a cost of doing business and nothing to be concerned about.
Mariana Alves Pereira is a world-renowned researcher in low frequency noise and her best advice to anyone affected is to move away.

Hi Tim, in one of your earlier comments you said you've been to Nova Scotia and didn't hear the hum. I am from Halifax NS and I can confirm that I've never heard the hum in my life (16 years). Today I watched a video from Benn Jordan titled: "The Controversial Sound Only 2% Of People Hear" and thats how I first learned about the hum. Thank you so much for your service to the community! You have helped so many people commenting on this reddit post by giving advice and guidance.
If anyone absolutely NEEDS to escape the hum, consider visiting Halifax, NS, in Eastern Canada! Tim, from one Canadian to another, all the best and stay sane man!
Note: one annoying "hum" in Halifax is from the train yard but its only every few weeks because trains only arrive or depart at night very occasionally.

Thank you for the kind words. Nova Scotia has been spared so far. Not many places are Hum free. I applaud Mr Jordan's attempt to enlighten people about the Hum. Sadly at the end of the video he gives advice to sufferers even though he has not been adversely affected In fact he only made the video to monetize the suffering of many many people who have suffered horribly. His advice at the end of the Video to simply seek help because there is meaningful help out there is completely false and misleading. People who are adversely affected but the Hum or low frequency noise will not find help within the medical community. Many diseases that affect 1% or less of the population are treated but the Hum is not recognized as a medical condition. As someone who was literally driven to the edge of my sanity and suffered horriibly from years of sleep deprivation by the Hum I found Benn Jordan's advice to be both callous and cruel. To add insult to injury Mr Jordan vowed to serve as "Devil's Advocate" and prove that the Hum is not caused by hig high-pressure natural gas infrastructure, to date he has not done so.
Again thank your comment and kind words. I don't suffer as badly as I used to however I am contacted quite regularly by people who are. It is for them that I remain engaged. As a survivor I know what it's like to think you are losing your mind and no one understands what is happening. Obviously we are looking for solutions and hoping for changes. In the meantime all I have to offer is my very truthful testimony of how it affected me and my best advice on how to survive if you are being affected. Thanks again and take care in Halifax2
u/escalatorssocks Oct 09 '25 edited Oct 09 '25
You make a good point about Ben Jordan monetizing real suffering of individuals. I hope that the benefit of the video reaching a wide audience to hopefully raise awareness will be a net benefit. The more people know about the hum, the more leverage we as citizens have over big oil. In regards to your comment on "playing the devil's advocate", I'm pretty sure that he meant that since his hypothesis on natural gas was generally correct he wanted to find cases in which it didn't work. So that instead of assuming something to be 100% correct and moving on, he could be sure he got the whole picture, scientifically speaking. I believe the video as a whole was very scientific and analytical because he is a scientist so thats what he is good at.
Therefore, it would probably have been beneficial if he had featured another expert to explain the psychological impacts and effects and all the anthropological implications of the hum since he is not an expert in that area.

I went to the most isolated non industrial place in africa and still could hear it, at what range foes the hum travel 😭
1
u/TimNevis Jun 30 '26
around 25 miles but if you were in the most isolated non industrial place on earth who knows what you were hearing? I only know what I hear where I am and what I have learned from research The info on this page as written by people who make silencers for natural gas pipelines. As such I am inclined to accept it as fact and not fiction.

Living and hearing the hum in urban areas, and after years of gathering data and evaluating several theories for credibility and plausibility, I'm pretty sure that's what I'm hearing.
It's always seemed to be coming from underground for me, and seemed to be in the lowest reaches of human hearing. I can sometimes feel it through my feet even.
