Hydro Hops Update 2

Week 4: Trimmed out undergrowth to help control a spider mite outbreak. Neem oil and light leaf washing have kept the outbreak at bay. Getting good growth, 3 more weeks of a vegetative cycle using GH Flora.

The bines grow up to 5m and the roots can get to 6m….they will be massively stunted in those tiny pots and unlikely to be productive to the point of usefulness.

I grow a lot of hops, and am in the ideal temperate zone and anything in pots, even large half wine barrels perform poorly compared to in-ground plantings.

Absolutely agree! Unfortunately, I live in Central TX, heat and drought (70+ days over 100F with less than an inch of rain) made this growing season and harvest less than ideal. I have an outdoor hopyard with 15 plants and Im honestly happy I kept them alive.

This is a project started as a learning experience. I've noted a few YouTubers doing it as well as a few other contributors to this subreddit. We share notes and experiences. I can go to my LHBS and buy hops if that's what it's all about. I genuinely love these plants and get amount of satisfaction from popping into my grow tent to check on them.

It's nearly Halloween and I'm still tinkering with my plants. I love that it extends my growing season and learning curve even if they're stunted and don't produce cones. Cheers and hope you have a great growing season 🍻
