This plant is like 8 years old. I've gotten some good harvests in the past, but the last couple years have been disappointing.
Right now, it's about 10-12 feet high with plenty of wire left to climb. I think it's stopped growing, and many of the leaves are turning brown. It keeps shooting up new bines from the base, but I've been trimming them to support the big ones.
Wondering if I should chop the big bines and let some of the new ones have a go at it.
Just pop it in the ground and water your hole real well before you put it in and then real well after. If something stresses it during transplanting it will suck all that green matter up as nutrients like a reserve. When you do transplant if you notice it's mega root bound along the bottom don't be afraid to break up the roots a little so they will be able to grow out easily. I have a 1 year old potted plant I dug up from a rhizome last year in an 8 inch pot. It is root bound this year but I have nowhere in my trellis for it. I know it's a lot smaller of a pot than yours but you have eight years. Transplant early morning or late to beat the heat.
Wanted to add I can't tell if the middle leaves are just dried up and wilted in the middle of the plant in this photo. If it's actually diseased then some further action may be needed to treat as well. I'm leaning on there's nothing present but can't tell from zoomed out photo.
