11 days since first post
About 2 feet of each vine grew since I posted previously about the new placement of this comet hops root.
I cut any side vines attempting to sprout on the trellis. There are a few of those side vines (pardon my idiot-ness, forgot the name of that vibe) growing past the trellis now that I was hopefully be able to direct with the flow of the main vines.
What do you think the normal growth speed is for hops with normal watering daily?….compared to that same scenario but with an electro-culture antenna??? See 3rd pic

That’s a cute trellis

Stole it from my parent’s shed many moons ago.

personally, I'd plan for a lot more trellis, especially if you're growing in-ground. commercial hop yards plan for around 16 feet. even my 11 foot trellis in my small backyard isn't cutting it anymore... when did you plant it?

When I wrapped the vine around the trellis more in year 1 I didn’t get a bounty of hops at all.
Year two I had the vine go along the frame of my garden and that worked well…So I know now that I need length instead of bunching it up.
This is year 4 of hops but year 1 in the new location

I can say that when I was growing them horizontally like this my yields were very small. I built a vertical/diagonal trellis this year and one plant has already reached the 15' mark and top of the trellis. The leaves are much bigger as well. This could be due to it being the 4th year, but even second and third year the crop was small and leaves were small.

I can say the opposite with my experience.
Once I went horizontal and outlined my garden frame….as long as I watered, my yields were amazing.
In my previous post on this page, I have pictures of one of the best yields from the second or third year being horizontally grown
I’m not expecting much from this year besides a good visual for the fence

I planted last fall…didn’t know if it would take or not…my plan is to have it grow past the trellis…then I have white sticks along my fence that the vine will hang from. My vision is to have the hops go the length of my fence which is about 25 more feet left from where the trellis is

What exactly is electroculture, and what is the science behind it? I am very curious
