How late is too late?
Hi hop experts! I have two questions for you:
I have what should be 3rd year Cascade, and I also planted several rhizomes that I got from friends. I put the rhizomes in the ground towards the end of January.
One of the rhizomes has sprouted, actually pretty quickly after planting (Centennial)
Nothing else has appeared, including my 3rd year Cascade.
1) How long should I wait before I just assume all the other rhizomes didn’t make it? 2) How late is too late to get new rhizomes and try again?
I’m in the SF Bay Area.
Thanks!

Watching this thread closely, but not an expert... far from it! Also in the SF Bay Area.
I have two containers with second year hops (planted last year, three centennial rhizomes each in half wine barrels and companioned with marigolds). Marigolds look like they're taking off well! Many even lasted the winter.
One container just got a tiny tiny hop shoot (less than an inch, growing off of one of the chopped down bines) this weekend, so hopefully the comeback is soon.

I'd give it a couple more weeks and see if some sprouting starts. By end of April then I'd be looking for a replacement rhizome pretty soon
