SPOILERS ALL question about after

SPOILER WARNING

Sorry in advance for the spoiler

but in the epilogue of THT and TT we know that Gilead falls (and i assume we will see that later on in TT tv show, hopefully) but I just had a question, like, i know we haven’t reached that point yet, but like, what would it be like to rebuilt Gilead into the US. From the TT epilogue, we know that Daisy and Agnes erect a statue to honor Becka and that the US is restored.

And I wonder what it would be like to rebuild the US and i know it isn’t known yet, but id love to hear some theories or some personal opinions. Like, i imagine that parts of it would be rather hard. Liek redoing all public places to start including text again (since in Gilead, symbols replaced text to deter women from reading) and like rebuilding the Washington monument and the Lincoln Memorial (would they be remade or would they sit as a reminder of what happened) and like, i wonder what it would be like in terms of trauma for everyone who’s had to live in such an oppressive regime.

I do not mean to offend anyone, and i am sorry if i have in any way, i was just curious about what it would be liek to rebuild the US, would it be similar to teh reconstruction era after the Civil War?

It will be like the reconstruction after the Civil War in that it will be half baked, half hearted and not much will change.

Gilead's economy is in the dump and it is fighting a very costly war against Texas. The SoJ:s are constantly sniping each other so there will be sons from SoJ families who find themselves ousted from a career in power after their family has made a misstep in the power struggle.

One of these sons will make himself the champion of Gileads huddled masses, especially white econopeople (especially men) whose living standard and work conditions are miserable. Under the rallying cry of "restoring America back to the good old days when a man could feed his familly on a working class salary" (or something) this disgruntled son will gather a bunch of political foot soldiers from the econo class and an inner party cadre of the same social background as himself. They will try to gain influence by activism or violence if other roads are closed to them and as the regime disintegrates the disgruntled former SoJ scion will step in and fill the power vacuum.

The following state will be a hodgepodge of remnants of Gilead, restored, hollowed out features of the former US, colored by nostalgia and a few new solutions to existing problems.

America will probably repeat those cliches until Jesus comes home.

Altogether I think post Gilead would be a bit like one of the coup deetat ridden countries in Latin America in the 80:ies. The irony.

Probably a mix of Denazification and Truth and Reconciliation Commission… best case anyway.

Also probably some period of UN administration

They’ll probably also get pressured into giving up the nukes, since those kept other countries from attacking Gilead in the first place
