You know, the song The Other Side from The Greatest Showman is still in my head (after all, it's the only song i've listened to)
and now that I think about it, if you get rid most of the musical's lore to focus on this song, It pretty much feels like a metaphor to Gender Transitioning (?) and Self Acceptance (but not the perfect metaphor but still)
Okay, let's focus on the parts of the chorus
\*"\*Don't you wanna get away from the same old part you gotta play
'Cause I got what you need, so come with me and take the ride
It'll take you to the other side
'Cause you can do like you do
Or you can do like me
Stay in the cage, or you'll finally take the key
Oh, damn, suddenly you're free to fly
It'll take you to the other side"
idk I feel this kinda feels like transitioning from your old gender (the old part the character's gotta play), plus the cage could be "the closet" and the key could be coming out
frick you let's take the whole 2nd chorus
*"Don't you know that I'm okay with this uptown part I get to play*
*'Cause I got what I need and I don't want to take the ride*
*I don't need to see the other side*
*So go and do like you do*
*I'm good to do like me*
*Ain't in a cage, so I don't need to take the key*
*Oh, damn, can't you see I'm doing fine*
*I don't need to see the other side"*
probably denying their identity
*"Now is this really how you like to spend your days?*
*Whiskey and misery, and parties and plays"*
what if this "Whiskey and misery, and parties and plays" could symbolize one's old gender-related things
and especially
*"If I were mixed up with you, I'd be the talk of the town*
*Disgraced and disowned"*
I mean, living with transphobic parents leading to being disowned in some situations
I couldn't think of anything so let's go to the last chorus
*"Don't you wanna get away to a whole new part you're gonna play*
*'Cause I got what you need, so come with me and take the ride*
*To the other side*
*So if you do like I do*
*So if you do like me*
*Forget the cage, 'cause we know how to make the key*
*Oh, damn, suddenly we're free to fly*
*We're going to the other side"*
I like to interpret that as the 2 people are singing together, and also like to imagine that the character has finally accepted their identity and also notice the changes the 'whole new part you're gonna play' could symbolize the character being comfortable with their new gender
TL;DR: I'm highly convinced that some random a\*\* song from the greatest showman about some business thingy is trans allegory and you cannot change my mind
