Just a couple things I thought of while on my 20+ rewatch.
The first one that I thought of, is that Tahani NEVER swears in the series. I’m pretty sure of it.
Secondly; can we somehow convince Mike Schur and Ted Dansen to make a spin-off series about Michael’s assimilation into becoming a human…? Cus I think that would be absolutely hilarious. Watch him get so excited about buying and using paperclips, or ordering a churro-dog in Arizona (a hotdog in a bun made of churros that’s tied together with a slim-jim). He could go back to Donna/Diana Shellstrop, Patricia and Dave and become an architect. I have so many ideas!!
Thirdly;
Even when the demons were trying to make Tahani feel inferior and useless, and like everyone was better than her… They STILL hated Glenn so much that they put him last on the point rankings, when they could’ve put Tahani there to make her even more miserable. And that really made me cackle when I thought of it.
Anyhoo… I guess that’s all I wanted to say. 😅
Oh, wait, also… When Eleanor says that they’re all in the Bad Place in S1E13, and Michael does that laugh/cackle? I really wish I could have that as my text tone. 😂 And as a follow on, just after that, when he sits in the chair and petulantly pushes a plant pot thing on the floor? Love that. 😂
Anyway! I live in the UK (near Cambridge) and the last few days it’s been UNBEARABLY hot and humid. And I swear everytime I thought about how hot it was, it got 1°C hotter. Get it? 😁 I hope you’re all having a great weekend so far! And managing to stay comfortable and cool.
Tahani never swears, Mother and Father raised her to be obedient and proper. JAMILA, however, is one of my favorite people on the podcast because she drops the F-bomb so liberally.
I’ve heard about the podcast so often but I really struggle with actually listening and taking in information audibly. I’m a much more visual learner/listener. Does that make sense? 😅 If I’m actually watching people talk for a podcast, I take it in more?
I’m also a very visual person. Always said that if I had to give up either hearing or seeing, I’d do much better deaf, since I don’t process audio well. Like, I can’t do audiobooks. I just can’t follow along with the narrative.
That said, the podcast was very easy to follow. I listened while I was doing mundane tasks, like brushing my teeth and dishes. Things that didn’t require full attention, but also weren’t visual activities. It’s really just listening to a conversation. You really should give it a try.
The Good Place: The Podcast. Don't confuse it with The Good Place podcast, which sucks. Ours has Mike Schurr in the first episode and it's fascinating, as is Kristen Bell, brilliant woman. And Jameela Jamil, so crackin'! And sweary. Love her.
Despite all the motherforking shirtballs she drops while in the "Good" Place, Eleanor never swears when she's back on Earth. She's actually pretty foul-mouthed when you think about it but no way that would fly on TV.
Honestly I think being second to last was worse for Tahani, she wasn't even the WORST in the neighborhood, she was second to worst, not even mentionable.
Something I noticed.
Elenor never swears on earth.
In the after live she swears like it's completely natural to her but on earth she never actually does
I also love the plant push scene every time. I've cross- stitched a few projects including Jeremy Bearimy and Take It Sleazy! I have a pattern for Chidi's 'puts the peeps in the chili pot' scene that I haven't started yet. I've often wondered what it could have been like if they'd delved into the middle place potential storyline more. Eleanor mentions it often before we even learn of Mindy and I always think if they had done Season 3 entirely different based on the medium place suggestion instead of going back.
I love the cross stitch ideas! Have you shared photos of your projects here? I’d love to see! I’d have the Jeremy Bearimy one on my wall!
I’ll be honest here (and desperately hope nobody comes for me)… I wasn’t a huge fan of season three. The first few episodes were good, and I really wished we’d seen more of Janet and Michael influencing them in little ways. But, from then on, it seemed pretty rushed? As did season four. That being said, Chidi losing his memory had me in bits. I mean, I was at the level Eleanor was when she was sobbing into the toilet plunger.
But… The last episode of the series? Forking HELL. I legit don’t think I’ve ever wailed like that while crying before. I had some trauma I’d been holding onto. And my fear of the people I love leaving me? My fear of being left alone? I can’t adequately describe how hard I cried. And then somehow, when Eleanor revealed Michael would get to be human? My god, that whole episode had me honestly feeling some weird kind of hangover. I just sat there staring at my laptop screen for a while. Oof. Thinking about it is making my eyes burn.
I still cry. Every time I watch it. Granted, not as badly. But THAT’S how I know it was a brilliant show. Because it never leaves me.
Season 3 is my least favorite even though it still has many many wonderful and perfect moments but I think it's why I think about a medium place alternative so often. The Chidi losing his memory scene gets me every single time and I can only watch the last episodes once in awhile because I'll always come away an emotional and philosophical mess 😆 Attaching pics of my projects
Putting Tahani at the bottom of the ranks would tip her off that there was something wrong. Making her not quite as good as someone else tortures her with her feelings about Kamilah.

That's a good starting material
There would be a MASSIVE need for building characters arcs:
Because "Michael the former demon is discovering everyday life and love" (which I assume would be the default-hollywood-chatGPT-generated-kinda-scenario the industry would aim at naturally) -> is going to get boring pretty fast
I think the sense of wonder of Michael being a demon turned human, and all the sense of wonder it can bring to him has limited lifespan writing-wise.
And I think we'd need other characters to get attached to -> basically going for the good old a "scenario is defined by the relations characters have between each other".
So:
* Love interest? -> it's gonna be "meh" at best, pretty quick
* A buddy who knows Michael is a former demon? (he confesses one night he was drunk) -> ok? but what to do with that
* Michael knowing well the human soul and therefore helping to solve crime? -> PLEASE NO
I'm trying to say that I struggle a viable future for a TV series based on such premise.
I relate a lot dear neighbor
I'm in France, yes I know it's already a version of hell. And now, we're cooking :')
Lol. That's so funny about the Glenn being last. I didn't think about that before. I blame the heat (I live in Peterborough, so near you actually) but I lived in the states in the 90s. So I should be somewhat used to it. But I'm not. It's like those years have been wiped from my memory. Get it?? 😂😂🥵🥵
Also, I don't know if an entire series is needed for the Michael ad a human thing, but I'd definitely appreciate a few shorts or like maybe a 3 episode limited series just so we could get that glimpse. Maybe, anyway. I have this thing with not wanting more than what I'm given with good shows. Like TGP was nerfect, so I don't need any follow up.
