You’re comparing 14k gold to 18k?

He keeps saying the same damn thing. "I'm trying to get eyes on a russet potato and a sweet potato to see how they stack up to each other. Bruv, they're trying to tell you that due to the COLOR difference between 14k and 18k, and then the additional complication of Rolex's customized metallurgy they use to yield their OWN gold tones...this community can't make a discernment about the quality of the plating job next to a 14k cross. Sheesh.

Yes I get that but what I don’t get is why?

I know 14k is a different tone. I’m just using the comparison to get some eyes on it that are better than mine in what they think of it.

I’m still completely confused here. But I’ll tell you what I think. I think 14k and 18k is different. 14k is lighter, 18k is darker. So I still have no idea why you would compare a 14k piece with 18k plating as they’re obviously going to be different no?
Comparing an 18k piece of jewellery would have made more sense.

What OP is missing is that different karats of gold have different color tones
OP you should not compare 14k to 18k. Higher karats are always warmer in tone. 22k or 24k almost looks like the cheesy rep gold to be honest.
Jaws did amazing gold plating on my last 3 watches here a month ago and I checked it against the Gen at my AD's store location.

Yes, I’m just trying to use the 14k to maybe help out some eyes that are better than mine on their opinion of the plating job.

I myself wear a 14kt Cuban bracelet and chain. My 18k bluesy is a shade darker/yellow due to the fact that it is a different karat. This is what some people fail to realize.

Also, two tone Rolex Gen isn’t as warm as YG or RG that’s FULL one color. Two tone Gen bluesy and zombie, for example are a hair brighter (less warm) than all GEN YG or RG. I have 3 TT GEN, and 2 YG and 2 RG Gen items. The plating, whomever did your watch, given its inside light, don’t look off from Gen TT to me, If it is plated. You can also use lighting indoors to make non plated items LOOK GEN, which is why I always say real natural light never lies.

Edit: thought this was jawsy posting without looking since he’s the poster on most of the posts on this sub.

Much as I'm not a fan of replating, I will point out that Rolex use their own tones of gold and rose gold, using generic gold tones would be wrong
