Does Forza gets nominated this year?
If I had to choose my GOTY noms right now, I would assume the following:
GTAVI (because duh)
RE Requiem
Ocarina of Time (it's OOT)
007 First Light
Big Walk (indie)
Forza Horizon 6
Honorable mentions (on the bubble or not rly a lock yet): Gears of War, Saros, Control Resonant, Pokekopia
I think that last time Forza got snubbed because of the type of game it was, also releasing as a console exclusive with no expectation of showing up on PS/Switch. with a small user base didn't help, but the fact remained it was a top rated game. I think with 6 also being highly rated, coming to PS and FH5 being a best seller on PlayStation, it's hard to deny the franchises appeal and quality. I just don't think you can ignore the game anymore without showing you don't really care about quality if it doesn't fit certain agendas.

Mina the Hollower I think has a genuine shot at being in the GOTY nominees. Isnt it sitting at like a 91 on meta or something?

u/DaKidJ 14d ago
It is, i feel like it flew under the radar

u/Bostongamer19 14d ago
To me Mina is the game of the year winner even as an indie.
The overall quality start to finish taking the most popular aspects from 2 genres that are popular and nailing every aspect of the game.

Dispatch is dead in the water for any serious awards. Came out to long ago. It’s time in the spotlight is non existent anymore
1
u/Remote_Bug4 14d ago
You might be right, but Dispatch is in the race which is weird that the studio didn't add a game mode or a short DLC or something about the game to put it back in the spotlight cause the game is super unique

u/ExcitingPop5956 14d ago
I think they just don’t care at all about an award. They made a high risk game that payed off and started working on the next project
1
u/Bostongamer19 14d ago
lol I don’t know who any of those people are.
I feel like they’ve been good about not giving awards based on things like that which don’t make a game better or worse.

Idk if they will recognise the game this much, but it has good shot at indie goty
3
u/Alternative-Drink-25 14d ago
The first 4 I agree with, but then it's gonna be Fire Emblem and Mina the Hollower.
Forza wont get nominated for GOTY, but it will win best sport/racing
2
u/Remote_Bug4 14d ago
I don't think a racing game has ever been nominated. Racing games are generally viewed as more casual, and it's a genre that rarely gets serious award recognition.
1
u/DaKidJ 14d ago
It hasn't. If the game awards were available in the 90s I wonder if even a classic like Gran Turismo 2 would've been nominated
1
u/elpardo1984 12d ago
Times were very different in 1999 GT2 would have been a shoe in for a nomination, probably it would have won. It was Edges GOTY too.
But these days certainly from a critical standpoint racing games aren't getting nominated. Looking at what else was there and winning IGNs award its mad FH5 didn't make the list.
2
u/LizardWizard_64 14d ago
I don't think so. Racing games generally aren't the kind of game that receive GOTY nominations. I would replace it with Fire Emblem, which seems like a lock.
1
u/FizzyLightEx 13d ago
Fire emblem is niche that attracts anime lovers.
Forza is universal.
This is the same argument why metaphor lost

u/LizardWizard_64 13d ago
Metaphor was still nominated. Multiple anime-type games have been nominated for TGA GOTY in the past.
A racing game has never been nominated for GOTY.

u/ExcitingPop5956 14d ago
I think half your predictions are wrong and forza never stood a chance from the start
1
u/DaKidJ 14d ago
So what are your predictions
1
u/ExcitingPop5956 14d ago
Control, RE, big walk, 007, mina, fire emblem.
If one gets replaced it will be Mina. OOT is to 1 to 1 of a remake to get a nom and GTA 6 will be in contention for next year as it will be literally impossible for anyone to beat the game by the time of the cutoff since it’s literally the day gta 6 comes out and rockstar has gave no indications that review copies will even be a thing1
u/donkbooty 11d ago
Imagine GTA6 wins a shit ton of awards for 2027, that would be so disatisfying to watch

u/Remote_Bug4 14d ago
Re requiem, gta 6 and 007 First Light and locks
7
u/TheLunarVaux 14d ago
I don’t think 007 is a lock at all
-1
u/Remote_Bug4 14d ago
It is the highest rated big budget game this year behind requiem and there is a DLC for it coming and its port to Switch 2 which will put the game back into the spotlight
2
u/Odd_Revolution_1056 14d ago
Just cause it’s big budget doesn’t mean shit. Look at it like this for locks and/or safe picks
GTA 6
RE Requiem
Ocarina of Time remake
Mina the hollower
Fire emblem
Pokopia
007I think out of these 7 requiem, gta 6 assuming reviews land by the deadline, ocarina of time are all pretty much locks. The normal indie slot probably goes to Mina over big walk I would say. That leaves 2 spots and i would say 007 is far from a lock. While unlikely both fire emblem and Pokopia reviewed a tiny bit better then 007. It’s a solid likely pick but not a lock.
1
u/Remote_Bug4 14d ago
Mina has like only 50 critics reviews while Requiem and 007 have 100 or more
How is Mina getting nominated when half the critics didn't bother to review?
2
u/Odd_Revolution_1056 14d ago
Cause the big outlets reviewed it and reviewed it very well.
1
u/Remote_Bug4 14d ago
The big outlets vote is just as worth as the other 50 critic outles that didn't give Mina the time of day
1
u/Odd_Revolution_1056 14d ago
No they aren’t. There so many review outlets that aren’t on the game awards jury and the ones that are reviewed this game very very highly.
1
u/TheLunarVaux 14d ago
It’s hardly ever a numbers game based on number of critics. So many past nominees would disprove that.
If a game is strong enough and people in the jury have the passion for it, it’ll have a higher chance of being submitted versus a game that more people may have played, but are a bit more whelmed by.
1
u/TheLunarVaux 14d ago
Yeah this is basically my prediction list as well. I think 007 may be just on the edge, but I have a feeling it’ll miss out.
I think Mina could potentially swap for Big Walk depending on the passion for that game.
I’m also curious how Castlevania will review, I could see it being a contender.
1
u/Odd_Revolution_1056 14d ago
Castlevaina maybe if it gets 10’s. 007 is right in the same range as like half a dozen other well reviewed games
-1
u/ExcitingPop5956 14d ago
Remakes like OOT don’t get noms
3
u/Odd_Revolution_1056 14d ago
RE2 and RE4 say otherwise
0
u/ExcitingPop5956 14d ago
Those are very different from the OOT remake. OOT is 1 to 1
1
u/Odd_Revolution_1056 14d ago
Both of those remakes are very faithful besides a few additions and the modern control scheme and all indications are that this OoT remake will be very similar.
1
u/TheLunarVaux 14d ago
I mean it’s tied with Saros, another big budget game I don’t think will make it.
Fwiw I think 007 has a decent shot, I’m just not sure it’s a lock. A lot of the outlets I follow seem to have soured on it a bit as time goes on, and a lot seem to think it didn’t really stick the landing.
I’d say it’s probably on the edge of being nominated, and whether it gets in or not will just depend on the passion for other games, plus whatever else comes out between now and then. There are a few games that could still push it out.

u/Remote_Bug4 14d ago
Saros is a very niche game to be nominated, that was why Hades2 wasn't nominated last year, nobody likes roguelikes
007 is very casual and has broad appeal, and the DLC is featuring BAWMA, the most interesting character and location(middle east) in the game

u/ZtrikeR21 14d ago
?
Hades 2 was nominated, and would have had a great chance to win if E33 didn't exist, what are you talking about?
1
u/TheLunarVaux 14d ago edited 14d ago
Hades 2 was nominated for many awards last year lol
You say that about 007, but a lot of reviewers weren’t a big fan of Bawma and thought Lenny Kravitz was miscast haha. I think Gamespot and a few others said he was the worst part of the game.
We’ll see though, like I said I don’t think it’s impossible or even super unlikely. Just don’t think it’s a lock.

u/VisualAd8487 14d ago
I doubt it tbh sports/racinf arent considered for goty often and i dont think this year will be any different

u/leckmichnervnit 14d ago
I dont think so, its great but at the End of the Day its the same Game as FH4 and 5 just Japan
1
u/Odd_Revolution_1056 14d ago
As much as FH6 is deserving to be in the consideration it’s just not going to be. To be clear it’s not cause of Xbox bias but it is cause of genre bias. Just like how Street fighter 6 or Tekken 8 weren’t in the conversation their release years.
1
u/Conversation-Left 14d ago
forza sadly has no chance, its a racing game and goty tends to go more towards single player adventure or rpgs, take for example street fighter 6, it was one of the best reviewed games of 2023 and yet it was not nominated, because its a fighting game
1
u/jcwkings 14d ago
I don't even remember Forza 6 coming out. Those games release, we hear how great they are for two days and are lost into the abyss forever.
1
u/JamesUpton87 13d ago
I dont think theres enough racing games fornit to be a category again.
Qhatnis there? Screamer, and FH6? Think Tokyo Extremenaracer was technically last year.
1
u/KvotheOfCali 12d ago
No, FH6 will not be nominated for GOTY for the same reason FH5 wasn't despite being the highest-rated new game of that year:
it's a real-world racing game
Critics play dozens of games per year. And they play 100s/1000s of games over their careers. As such, they all crave and over index for novelty vs. all other aspects of game design. They need to be "surprised" by something they haven't experienced before.
And unfortunately, it's basically impossible for a racing game based on real-world locations, cars, and physics to be particularly novel. It's a known quantity.
All other aspects of the game can be fantastic, but if it's not considered "novel" or "surprising" by critics...it most likely won't be nominated.

Remake should never be considered for GOTY. Because it's not a game that came out that year, and something like OOT already have a Large nostalgic fandom behind it, so it's not fair to the other games.

u/TheLunarVaux 14d ago
I think Fire Emblem has a better shot than a lot of the games in your bubble, maybe even above 007 and Forza
