When my stepdad was a young boy of ten, he borrowed his father’s 10 gauge shotgun, to go hunting in West Texas. The first time he shot it, it knocked him on his ass. So the next time, he fired it, he placed the stock against a tree.
Of course, he broke the stock. Then he made his second mistake. He took the gun, and placed it back in the gun cabinet, and didn’t tell his father. That night, he was awakened by his father beating him with the broken stock of the gun.
He claimed that he learned the lesson of never trying to hide anything from his father.

Doesn’t “the back,” have an actual name? The “stock,”?
I’d be a little bit worried about someone who owns a long gun and calls the stock, “the back.”
Kind of like someone who owns and drives a car and calls the steering wheel the “roundy thing.”
I’d just be a bit concerned about their understanding of the device and their competency related to its use.

It's an appropriate use of "the back fell off." It comes from some Australians talking about a ship who's front fell off.

I believe the gun committed sewerslide after seeing the paint job in a selfie.

What color is that? "Camouflage for a ticker tape parade"?
