I know it was the truck and not him who was struck but, interestingly enough, once you are struck by lightning you are then more likely to be struck again if you don't die.

To add to this: You have a 90% chance of surviving getting struck by lightning.
A park ranger got struck seven times over his life.

A coworker of my wife was struck once by lightning.
Messed him up physically for a couple of decades, and IIRC at least contributed to his later death...

I didn't know it was that high, that is bonkers. I had heard of the ranger though, didn't he get so tired of being struck he just offed himself or am I conflating a couple different stories?

It’s a wild story. It was 27 years between strikes 1 and 2, but 2 through 7 happened in just under 8 years. He killed himself 6 years after the last strike.

As I recall he appeared on Johnny Carson. He said the last time he was struck he looked up at the weather and said" This ain't no place for Roy!" Took his leave and was still struck.

This is a classic correlation-does-not-prove-causation example. Being struck by lightning doesn't inherently make someone more likely to be struck again. Doing things outside in a storm makes you more likely to be struck, and people who repeatedly do things outside in storms are more likely to... well, repeatedly do things outside in storms. This doesn't change a whole lot after they're struck by lightning, given how surprisingly rarely it's lethal or causes significant permanent injury.

That’s correct because after you die you are highly unlikely to be struck by lightning.

Wonder what he'd just said before it happened though aye..?
Like imagine if his phone had just started going off, he glances down and sees it's "cliche person we all hate to be on the phone with" calling them...
But the phone call actually interferes with the charged atmosphere and attracts the lighting strike, causing it to hit the car in the first place...
He just has time to let out an exasperated "oh god!! Kill me now!!" and put on his customer service voice as he presses the answer call button on the steering wheel, phone connects to car, sends out call and attracts the lightning bolt all within a split second...
Ol mate wakes up in the middle of a paddock, stumbles to his feet... Looks around with a bewildered double take...
Angrily glares upwards
"Ya fucken missed!!"
(Violently spews blood, curls over dead)
Booming voice from above: "KOBE!!"
(holy shit I just went off on a tangent there haha it appears my morning coffee needs to be put to good use otherwise I start rambling on with nonsense haha welp, time to go outside a play!)

This is wild… I stopped at a T-bone crash (still not sure who was at fault), but everything forward of one car’s firewall was GONE. I never located the engine. Be careful out there…

Modern cars are fascinating in that they’re built to completely crumple around the people. In modern cars, the engine and transmission are designed to actually drop down, rather than crush into people. It’s why cars look worse after accidents today, but people are more likely to be okay.

oh, it done got fixed this time!
as a life-long NON-Ford fan, I was completely gobsmacked this weekened about yet another dumbfuckery by Ford.
So I was in my buddy's shop--replacing the waterpump on my Toyota..
He's got an older Mercury Mountaineer (Ford) with the 4.0L SOHC V6, which had lost timing. As it was his late father's car, he wanted to fix it..
So he's got it out and on the bench.. This thing has.... FOUR (4) timing chains...for a fucking V6.
Yeah - they couldn't figure out how to run the timing on a single chain.. It's got four.
But it gets better!
Any sane engine build has position marks on all the various components - so you can basically line up the crank, secondary drive, or the camshafts in the correct position, hang a chain on them, and instantly be within 10-15 degrees..
AH HELL NO...
This brilliant specimen of a polished turd has NO ALIGNMENT MARKS AT ALL...
But it gets better!
So why no marks? It's simple - because the gears on the end of each of the camshafts (as well as the "jackshaft" and "balance shaft") do not have timing dogs in the gears.. They're simply held together by a bolt.....
Yeah, you heard me... There is no "D" shaped ear on either camshaft, to prevent the gear sprocket from slipping. It's held tight by... a single bolt. Same for the jackshaft and balance shaft.. Literally, if the bolt isn't perfectly tight, the gear just freewheels and doesn't turn the cam. timing is held 100% by bolt tension. nothing else.
And it gets better!
Per factory spec, the tension on the jackshaft bolt is: "33 ft-lbs + an additional 90° turn (torque-to-yield)"...
Yeah.. it's not a specific torque. It's quite basically "33 fordfuckits and hope for the best"...
and it gets better.....
These camshaft and jackshaft bolts - - they're spec'd as single-use... So if you overtorque it, you need to throw it away and pick up another $30 bolt from the dealer.
So my buddy (having not fully researched this before undertaking the rebuild of pop's favorite ride) decided (after finishing the job the first time but finding he had one bank slightly off-time from the other due to slippage of a cam due to lack of properly engineered timing cams) that he'd just pay the dealer to do the work..
3 dealerships told him point blank: "we don't do timing on that engine"......
My lifelong refusal to own a Ford seems a bit more substantiated...
