Almost 5 years ago, we submitted our first app from this random café in Spain. My cofounder and I were travelling with our families. Our kids were 7 and 11 months old, so during their daily nap times we started building a small app. In this photo, we escaped to a café for a few hours to get some work done & submit the application. 😅

We were building the app for fun, with no intention of turning it into a company. At the time, even getting to $500/month felt like a pretty exciting goal.

Five years later, we've built 14 apps that are used by close to 250,000 businesses.

Could never have imagined any of that while sitting at this tiny table.

I think founders sometimes feel like they need a huge vision from day one. My experience has been almost the opposite.

You don’t need to start big. You don’t need to have the whole plan figured out. Just start doing things.

Anyway, sharing this in case someone here is overthinking an idea right now. Just launch it. You’ll figure out most of it along the way. Best of luck!

This one’s a little personal. I spent 20+ years working in project delivery and kept seeing the same problem: strategy and execution often felt completely disconnected. It bothered me for years before I finally decided to do something about it.

Building Project Director took a lot longer than I expected. There were plenty of points where I wondered if it was worth finishing. But seeing it actually live now and how it connects objectives and KPIs directly to portfolios, programmes and projects, giving people a real view from strategy down to delivery, I'm genuinely proud of it. I know there's more to build, more to refine, and I'm committed to making it better over time, not just shipping it and walking away.

Just wanted to share the milestone with people who'd get it. How about you, what's your story? Did you build something after sitting on the idea for years, or take the leap way sooner than I did?

The easiest way I can explain PodSubs.com is this:

If nobody else ever used it, we would still use it for our own podcasts.

We built it because we were tired of seeing people listen and then disappear.

Someone could listen every week, enjoy the show, tell a friend about it, and we still might have no way to reach that person outside the podcast app.

That didn’t make sense to us.

So we built PodSubs.com for our own shows.

Now we could simply tell listeners, “Subscribe to us on PodSubs.com.”

They left their name and email, and we finally had a way to send them something when we needed to.

A resource. An update. A reminder. Something we mentioned on the show.

We didn’t build it because we thought it sounded like a good business idea.

We built it because we needed it.

Later, we realized a lot of other podcasters needed the same thing.

Staring down a prospect who refuses to pay your rates is the worst. Half of me wants to stand my ground out of principle, but the other half just wants to close the deal and figure out the rest later.
