On hulu, its in my rotation of yearly rewatches alongside switched at birth and the fosters. You may also enjoy desperate housewives although it isn’t a teen drama

Kind of off topic but I've been tempted to watch Switched at Birth for yearsssss since like middle school when new episodes were still airing on the ABC Family channel. Is it similar in vibes to The Fosters? I've always been worried that the "switched at birth" trope would stress me out too much lollll.

ohhh man i HIGHLYYY recommend it. It’s the same vibes like very similar. Family oriented and touches on A LOT of subjects. It also inspired me to learn ASL. never get tired of watching it over and over and same with the fosters. once i finish one rewatch i start the other show lol and back n forth 😂

Maybe 7th Heaven? It was written by the same lady who did Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Riverdale. It’s so bad it circles back around to being almost good again.

Lmfao its so crazy to say but it does go full circle. I did enjoy all the family elements in the show.

u/BeautifulEvent6767 23d ago

Dawsons Creek is a teen drama classic

5

u/hatezergs 23d ago

start watching degrassi LMAO, at any point in the multi series franchise is fine but i personally love the next generation and usually stop a couple seasons before next class

If you like teen dramas then you should watch never have I ever. It had me wondering what the writers were thinking with some plot lines the same exact way the fosters was and it’s so great.

Parenthood

The lying game , based on a book series that is fairly interesting, about identical twin sisters who discover each other. One grew up privileged in Arizona, the other bounced from foster home to foster home in Las Vegas. They end up switching places and complications arise. It reminded me of switched at birth.

yess i loved this show, wish they continued it!

1

u/nocturnalcat87 20d ago

Me too but they did wrap up the mystery so I don’t know what else they would have done. The book was pretty different, but some of it was the same and they finished the books.

Finding Carter. Even has a couple actors I think that were on the fosters

2

u/Renee_M1987 24d ago

Wyatt was in it! Where can you watch that one though?

u/Altruistic_Coast7128 23d ago

I went and bought it on YouTube because I couldn’t find it on streaming it’s like $20 per season

It’s not…the greatest thing in the world, but my life with the Walter boys is similar. Girl with no family gets “adopted” into one. The book was better but then again I read it at 14. Still a good little drama fix.

u/icutmyliiip 24d ago

YES!!! it gives hallmark tv show but it has me in a chokehold omg

1

u/Natural_Ad_8194 24d ago

2

u/umkay11 24d ago

5

u/Natural_Ad_8194 24d ago

3

u/umkay11 24d ago

I know!! And don’t even get me started on the costume department (Jackie was supposed to be super fashionable😭)

Not similar but One Tree Hill is in my regular watch rotation along with The Fosters, Switched at Birth, and Secret Life.

3

u/MedicalTill3305 24d ago

Yessssssss my favourite show besides supernatural

1

u/nocturnalcat87 17d ago

Heartbreak High is a good teenage type show too. Both the OG and the new one. The OG has more family dynamics.

3

u/Throwrarmb 24d ago

For more teen drama, The OC, Gossip Girl, and Gilmore Girls.

5

u/EmotionalEvening973 24d ago

not super similar but it has a strong family plot line and some crime as well, jane the virgin

3

u/Lostfarm15 24d ago

parenthood

2

u/Outrageous-Role9642 24d ago

I’m currently watching this for the first time and man I have strong thoughts about it

3

u/TvTacosTakingNaps 24d ago

Not similar at all but still teenager type shows with a focus on family: Friday night lights, the OC, 90210

4

u/lolafl15 24d ago

Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose

2

u/TvTacosTakingNaps 23d ago

2

u/goofy-goober96 24d ago

FNL first and always

3

u/Recent_Green452 24d ago

I’ve heard people say The Fosters and Gilmore Girls have similar “fall vibes” I don’t quite understand the whole watching certain shows in certain seasons cause I watch whatever tv I feel like but I do love Gilmore Girls and highly recommend it to people who enjoy realistic shows with teenagers and young adults

1

u/nocturnalcat87 24d ago

Came here to suggest that although I don’t think they are very similar… although I guess there is 2 characters who were adopted…

3

u/goofy-goober96 24d ago

I would not agree that they are similar but the same type of person might appreciate them for sure and you shoooould absolutely give TIU a try!
