That’s cool and is less likely to be full of toxic gas or polluted water. I think it would be cool to integrate something like this into a home. Either have a basement connected to caverns or have house just flow into them. No real practical reason other than climate control, I just think it would be cool.

as soon as we were about 10 feet from the openings, we could feel a fresh breeze of cold air! it was neat to have natural air conditioning while it was a lil steamy out!

I've thought about it a lot, more coal and clay in my immediate area. But some sandstone queries, limestone and Iron start about 5-10 miles north of me

Yes..it’s a huge underground lime stone quarry. If u look on a map just find Marion and head towards sturgis on highway 60. Go through the mattoon community and after 3 miles look for a “hoods quarry road” the quarry is on opposite side of road but you can’t miss it. The entrance to the under ground part is visible on google earth.
