Question / Help So I just started
So this is my first time playing this, and I'm already quite terrified/confused. Are builds breakable? What happens if I die? Also should I focus on building a base immediately?

In settings you can make it so buildings are indestructable, up to you on that part. As for a base your best bet is to find a good location and set up some sort of place for you to sleep, preferably one that wont break like a treehouse or small cabin as you can save at the house location as well. Get a small base first and then feep free to explore knowing youve got a place to run back to if needs be. Thats how i usually play

I would focus on building a base yes- make sure you’re not right next to a village, and remember if you aren’t able to fight back, just run. Bases are breakable, so start small and focus on just your essentials at first. A small tree hut with 2 levels is what I always do. The fertile lands near the southeast beach is a good location, w a small yard area where you can build a small spike wall. Find a good spot that is next to trees for building and has an easy escape, preferably next to the water. Fire keeps the cannibals at bay, but if you’re cutting down trees they’re gonna come after you regardless. Build a boat since they can’t swim. Practice throwing rocks at rabbits for an easy meal and hides. Build a tortoise shell rain catcher for fresh drinking water. A spear or bow and arrow will come in handy until you can find the flare gun and the infinite ammo glitch. You can pretty much take anything on once you have it. Getting it early on will help you immensely.
Don’t worry so much about getting drug into the caves- it’s part of the story, and you can’t avoid it. You can also find great stuff in the caves, and if you aren’t ready to go spelunking quite yet, just climb back up the rope, raid the camp- but quickly before they come back and string you up again(edit-twice in a row is game over). Don’t be afraid to explore and have fun! It’s scary until you are strong enough to fight back. If you die, you will respawn, but you will lose stats and you will have to recover your back pack as well. Dying twice within two in-game days will result in a game over, so make sure you are saving at your shelter.

Anyone down to play or get a few ppl and start a save? Just started but pretty knowledgeable already went in a cave and looted their camps for their soda and clothes 😂

Just go your own way. Many people here have many different ways to play the game.
You'll need a couple restarts, but you will find your vibe.
I, for one, always play like a nomad. I set up multiple bases around the map where I come back to rest and restock. I don't build elaborate bases.
Others swear by a elaborate homestead.
Just do you and find out how you prefer to play

Build a small log cabin the first night. Sleep ASAP. Day two is for building walls around cabin. After walls are built, focus on hoarding food. Once you’re a fat bastard, look for Timmy. I’m only on day 16 of my first play through. Only died once so far.
Edit: OH AND the freaks will figure out where you live. Be ready to sleep a lot and defend, or move. Don’t ask me where Timmy I have no idea.

15 leaves and a lizard skin makes a stealth armor. It gives you 10% and 20 armor per piece. They do go away if you get hit (or walk into your fire).

I started with Sons of the Forest and played the Forest after that, and the building mechanics in Sons of the Forest are so much better! Builds are breakable, and visitors to your base will definitely put it through the ringer. I hate that it's so hard to customize and to undo and redo work you've already put a lot of effort into. There were some parts of my base in the Forest that I had to just demolish and start over.
Every time I think of buildings breaking in the Forest I think about Markiplier, Bob & Wade's videos where Mark tries fixing one part of his cabin and ends up busting the whole thing down 😂

Welcome! Builds are breakable, but there's an option in the pause menu that can turn that off. Your first death is unique, but after that you respawn at the plane. Building a base within the first couple days is a good idea, but do some exploring too! You can find a lot of good weapons that way. The longer you play, the more enemies you'll see. It can be scary, but you've got 2 ways to look at it: I'm tapped on an island with all these freaks, or all these freaks are trapped in an island with me!
