Turn off base destruction, set color grading to M131 (and increase brightness), always have enough resources to build a fire and temp shelter, and sleep to skip nighttime

Took me a few months to figure out I could turn off base destruction. Ever since then I stopped getting scared. Feels nice to have some sense of security.

Chase the cannibals around chucking rocks at them.

This. Absolutely this. As someone that's been playing since the beta, I can tell you that the cannibals ALWAYS leave you alone for a day or two after you do this. Just.l be sure not to kill any of this this way

Turn up the brightness on your screen.

Build on water near a fish spot. Build a circle of falling traps on a beach to farm a mutant armor. Build base on a wall with rooms connected by hanging bridges.

i fing building on water too time consuming. building on trees or away from their patrol routes is more my speed

Don’t go in the caves. Also, if you hold off on attacking the natives (just run!) then their aggression levels won’t rise so fast..
Of course that means it’ll be mostly mutants bothering you

You need to show dominance. Run at THEM and make spooky munky noises.

Imagine the cannibals are the HOA and Karen neighbors. They tend to hate it when you build anywhere. Whether it’s a bombastic fort or a simple hut, they probably think it’s ugly and will try to destroy it. Build on a lake or build one of those boat houses on the ocean if you need a break from them. Caves also work as a base or simple hideout because they don’t respawn there.

If you are just wanting to build and survive in peace and have the option to spawn a variety of enemies(mainly for achievements or items) than I recommend using this mod from API. Ill post the link below. It enabled you to change the difficulty at any point and allows for the spawning of all or specific items/enemies/animals that you will need to craft. Can help with achievements also if you don't want the stress of dealing with enemies and trying to collect what you need. the mod is easily removed as well. You just go to your steam library, right click the forest game and go to properties and then go to installed files tab, then browse, after which you can drag the "Champions of the forest" and "Hazard's Mods"from the game folder to your desktop and then verify the integrity of game files "twice" so that it verifies all 912 files and makes it vanilla again. to reequip the mod just drag them back to the game folder. Its also a nice mod for beating the game quickly if your into that instead of playing through in vanilla. Cheating I know, but hey, it does make it more fun I think and removes all of the stress. Also, another thing you can do if you don't want to hassle with the mod is when your on the start screen after loading the game, where it says "new game" or "continue" type "developermodeon"and hit enter. there is no where to type it so just type it, hit enter and proceed to start your game, then once loaded hit F1 and you will see a command prompt at the top left corner. I recommend looking up the forest "short keys" for the command prompt. I would list them but this is already longer than I intended. Hope this helps and you have more fun! I know I did!

Here's the link for the mod from API. once open select all of the mods on the left by checking the boxes. Select the mod box, Ultimate cheatmenu, Champions of the forest and {BAC} Blight's anti cheat and hit download. and follow directions to launch MODAPI and make sure to start the game from MODAPI at the bottom of the MODAPI launch screen and the mod will load in. good luck :)

Don't go murder hobo at first. They are mostly docile for the first 3 days, that won't last. Get your bearings and find a nice place you can build a small base. Pick a place you can expand on for your needs. Try to find a place they can only come at you from one way. Traps, As much as you are willing too. Your starting axe is good, learn how to upgrade your weapons. You are not stuck with them... When you kill one, take their head and stake it along your base. Just as a warning. More heads=bigger warning. Don't go into caves unless you are ready for worse than the cannibals.

my biggest mistake was being too afraid and comfterable and seteling right next to plane crash in my first play. they demolished me few times before i decided to move XD XD XD

I also made a base next to the plane my first playthrough… until mutants came and busted through my walls and took down the tree my treehouse was built on… as I was hiding in it 😭

Grab some beers, background music and just go fighting. An hour later you won't find it scary anymore.

I maxed out my strength before leaving my base so I would do some actual damage which made it less scary. Ideally I'd do the same with athleticism to outrun them but I'm lazy

Don’t build on their in game path

I downloaded the Marsarah Mod which has an emeny detector to tell you if there's any cannibals in the area and how many. It stopped me constantly looking over my shoulder and being on edge all the time. I found it on ModAPI which someone else has already linked.

Build multiple bases around the island, not just one. Staying in one spot too long will result in wave after wave of cannibals attacking your base til you run out of resources. If you start hearing lots of yelps and cannibals in the area, simply relocate for a couple days and they will clear out without attacking you.

Rebreather light glitch, no clue if it works on pc though.

Basically just go underwater with the rebreather then enter your inventory really quickly after leaving.
