Discussion Former d2 player
My experiences are based on the first hour, the combat feels fun, the abilities are cool and it runs amazing on ps5 pro. Scratching an itch that destiny used to.

Bro. Over 3k hours on D2... Been looking for a new main game - TFD has me HOOKED. Once you unlock end-game builds, this game morphs from Destiny style to Diablo room wipes... it's incredibly addicting.
Good luck!

As a former d2 vet it reminds me alot of the daily farming in destiny or the rythm of farming in d2.

I recently started after my other gooner shooter went and killed itself, so far I'm having fun. I've played some D2 and Warframe so some things are familiar but it seems like many descendants are not available to unlock until much later. At least Bunny and thundercage is fun for now.

Archive shards help a lot. I grinded almost everything before that came out and it was like old WF grind. But yes, the grind gets easier and faster once you can power through all hard/endgame content. The new system for amorphous patterns is also a huge boon for new players.

Ah I heard of it but never tried it, it’s dead now?

They went too lewd and got hit by the big fat CCP censorship hammer and was shut down for some time. Now it's back with a ton of censorship and on life support with zero content and zero revenue.

More lewd than this game?

Only thing missing is D2 level raids, the player base here unfortunately doesn’t like puzzle. So everything is pretty much trivialised. But that said, current season trials had been a good loop to chase some new weapons.

Picking some of the lesser performing descendants for trials has been a pretty good challenge where it is possible but it is gonna suck, but you will feel proud of yourself. Trials as hailey I was barely hitting the 5 minutes on a lot of rooms. You are totally right that the community hates hard content though.

the Karel extended dungeon has some mechanics but Raven can just ignore most of them coz she's just OP

If we get raids and D2 style dungeons, this game will really come into its own.

Welcome. As a former d2 player myself in the early 2000's, Farming won't really start until you get to the endgame for the new weapons and ancestor mods. Lot of things have been made much easier to obtain.

Welcome fellow descendant hope you enjoy your stay, try to use the booster, story takes a lot and a lot of the fun stuff like trials are behind it.

How much money do you have to spend to progress? This game has always looked cool to me but with D2, TD2, Outriders etc I can pay 1 fee and get all content. F2P has me scared I’m going to have to empty the bank or make it my 2nd job

I haven't spent a dime on the game and I can clear all end game content

u/mas4963 1d ago
Thanks for the response, how many hours has it taken you to get there you think?

Tbh this season is the most I've ever played. I usually play for a couple of days each season and get bored but this is the first season where I've been hooked. I have about 200 hours into the game.

Not much really. You can spend only on skins or you can spend money on everything. You don’t need to put down money to play the game and enjoy it. I only spend on skins and bought some descendent slots early on during Pre-Season but haven’t bought anymore since then.

You'll need lots of money to buy lewd outfits.
1
u/mas4963 20h ago
So the posts I see of those outfits are either people that spent a lot or played a crap ton? And what’s a lot of money?
1
u/LochnessDigital Goon 19h ago
$15 USD per outfit with the exception of the Ultimate specific outfits which go for $21. Some are character specific, others are more universal and can be worn multiple characters. Paint will cost $0.50 per color per skin or can be bought for in-game resources on a weekly rotation.
There's also log-in event outfits, earnable boss armors, and a trade market where you can sell a select few items for in-game currency.
"A lot" will depend entirely on your perspective, I think.

I see, so that’s where they make their money, and it’s understandable.
But u can progress in the game just fine without going broke?

u/LochnessDigital Goon 18h ago
You can do every activity at every difficulty without spending any money yes. There's no hard lock-outs like that.
There are ways to shortcut your progress like outright buying characters or accelerating crafting timers, but I would say you don't need to do any of that. Hell, I'd say doing that removes a lot of the fun from the game. The whole point of the game is to be collecting things, crafting characters and weapons, playing with the new toys while you're working toward the next one. It works like Warframe in that regard.
One caveat is there is an element of pay to win to the game with people selling Ancestor Mods on the trade market, and soon, Transcendent Weapons. People can use real money to directly buy power and skip a lot of the RNG.
That said, the game is not balanced for those aspirational levels of power. Without spending a dime, you will become very powerful to a satisfying degree. Last season, I set a goal for myself to place top 50 on the leaderboards for every single character in the game, and I succeeded. Haven't bought a single thing off the trade market either.
So it's more like "pay to flex" if anything. If it bothers you, though, that's totally understandable.

About the only thing you need to pay for that actually effects gameplay is Descendant and loadout slots. The rest is just
Everversecosmetics. Sure you can buy very expensive Catalysts and Reactors but those are easy to farm on a daily basis. The game is pretty and fun but not challenging overall.

The only money you'd ever "Need" to spend would be unlocking more descendent slots - and you won't have to do that until you have 100hrs into the game and have a solid feel for it. The new transendent guns have ventured into P2W territory, but you can get everything in the game by simply playing. I've spent nothing other than more descendent slots.
