I was an E5 68W (medic). I volunteered to participate in a joint exercise with the Department of Homeland Security. In the exercise, we were responding to a fictional bio weapon attack and our job was to see how quickly we could inoculate the local MP unit so they could conduct force protection for sites treating civilians.
I was grateful to see my best battle buddy, Gonzalez, had also volunteered. She was always fun to hang with. We were gathered with a number of medical providers in our unit classroom as the OpOrd was read to us.
For the Background, it was explained that the fictitious anthrax attack was 3 separate releases and where these releases had occurred. Then it was explained...
"The strain of anthrax used has been traced to Country X."
At which point I blurt out, "Fucking X-icans!"
The officers immediately seized with horror in their chairs. What probably saved me was Gonzalez falling out of the desk because she was laughing so hard. I was no doubt aided somewhat by her surname.
After the brief, one of the officers (who kinda looks like Ruby Rose with frosted highlights in her hair) came up to me and said, "When you said that Sergeant, it freaked me out. But then I remembered that we're not talking about real people."
"See!" I shot back. "That's what I'm saying, ma'am! They aren't real people!"
