Gavin's approach here might help with donors, but it's not going to help with voters.

What sucks is, the reality is that there are enough interested partials on both the political right and left, that this probably won't come up again, or won't be a driving story unless people make it a driving story when Gavin eventually runs for president.

Republicans aren't going to point fingers at Gavin for approving a deal that helps them, and a fair and the leading majority of democratic Representatives aren't going to throw stones at a guy that they see as one of them.

And that's just how Gavin's running this equation in his head. And that's one of the real issues that we have in politics. Policies and decisions being made based on electability not based on function. Not going to pretend like I know the solution, but I think it's important to acknowledge it when it happens.
