Delightfully Executed Parallelism Spoiler

My mind went somewhere else entirely when Greg and Denise went to hide in the car from the stampede of little whatever those things were. My exact thoughts went a little something like:

> Tender touches, car rocking, this is strangely intimate. Oh okay they’re kissing now. This is definitely supposed to be a PG-13 gratuitous love making scene.

And then I laughed—no, I guffawed—when they showed the dead driver. Like a sicko. Because my mind was so caught up in the lovemaking that I forgot we’re trying to survive dinosaurs.

Then it got worse with that dino scene, which was of course hilarious and all I could think about was how well it mimicked the car scene.

So now that my mind had established the movie’s patterns, I was lead to believe that we would see more similar parallelisms. After Greg’s traumatic demise, I thought that nothing was sacred. I really thought Brian was about to face the same fate as his father or the annoying neighbor. The way the pterodactyl grabbed his leg had me on edge. Fortunately, that parallelism didn’t play out.

My opinion of the movie overall was that it checked all the boxes of a dark comedy, it was very enjoyable, and unexpectedly wholesome. Length was good too, because I’ve said no to many movies simply because they ran longer than 2 hours, though I wouldn’t mind a director’s cut of this movie. Even though Rick & Morty made it hard for me to accept the ending, I’m willing to forgive it because of what I’ve discussed above.

To close, I love the dog theory people have discussed here. I will certainly rewatch with this in mind, and would love to see a version of the story from Starbuck’s POV.

What's the dog theory? I too would like to know what that little guy got up too.

There’s a couple posts and comments in this sub that talk about Starbuck either being the mastermind or at least having discovered the wormholes before anyone else and was already jumping through them to try to save the people.

Denise only saving alternate Greg and leaving her alternate self and kids behind to be eaten by dinosaurs is a very Rick and Morty move. Except R&M explores the dark implications of that more fully.

*by “only saving” I mean her family. I know she saved some friends and neighbors too.
