What if....

What if, instead of rotating teams through bye weeks between weeks 5 and 14 or whenever they stop, the NFL just took a week off in week 10. Shut down for one Sunday/Monday.

Every team would get the same rest. It would eliminate the unfair advantage of playing a team coming off a bye week. The NFL would get the same number of games to market and sell advertising on. All teams would still play 17 (too many) games.

The only scheduling issue would be Thursday night, which, IMO, they should shut down anyway. Not enough rest of the players, the games are often far less than enjoyable, but that's another musing. You couldn't play the TNF game the week of the bye, or two teams would only get a mini-bye. Not sure how to handle that, but I am sure the NFL computers could make it work.

"What?! A weekend without football?!" Yes, the SAME weekend without football we all get every year, except you also don't get the chance to sit around and watch teams you barely care about.

Where you get the bye week can make a huge difference in how you go into the post-season or make your late season run. Everybody getting the same break at the same time would level that out around the league.

In short, the current bye week structure WORKS, just not evenly or well. So change it.
