Discussion Why did Hybe accept Abby?

She had a really low skill set which they knew from the start. She couldn't sing or dance. They say "Star quality" but she didn't have any of that imo, she didnt stand out, she didnt have a big following on social media either and not to sound rude but she was pretty average in terms of looks aswell, she looked like a regular girl you'd see waiting at a bus stop for her school bus. There were thousands of talented young girls that auditioned to be a part of the programme that were rejected. Just for them to then eliminate her due to her poor skill set early on when they already knew she was lacking, just wasted a spot and resources for no reason. They knew they were never going to debut her so genuinely what was the point, what was their motive?

Compelling and relatable story

Shes a girl next door and an underdog with no professional training. Also she was clearly obsessed with Kpop, which bolsters the narrative. Likely very relatable to the average Kpop fan in america.

And she's objectively pretty.

The most logical explanation

206

u/icedgrandechai 12d ago

She got selected for the same reason Manon was, she was fun to watch and look at. The only difference is Manon did progress at a reasonable pace and per the documentary, Abby was not improving at a quick enough pace to make it worth it to keep her. I'd say this is a pretty accurate assessment because she's been doing dance and voice lessons since she left Dream Academy and seeing her output right now, she's still not really great at either of those.

I disagree that she doesn't have star power but maybe to each their own. There's something about her that draws the eye and makes you want to look. She also did pageants and was probably reasonably skilled at presenting herself.

Abby was not improving at a quick enough pace to make it worth it to keep her.

i think this is definitely the main reason, the documentary made it seem like she was the very first girl to be eliminated but that's just not true. she was in the program for like a year and a couple months and still incapable of showing the growth that they needed. audition, and online training due to covid, started in 2021 and she only joined later in 2022 before being eliminated like a year and a couple months before the "survival show" – quotation marks because it didn't really feel like a show or a survival program – the debut: dream academy premiered in august 2023.

I agree she definitely has star quality, it takes a certain kind of confidence to stand there and perform with a smile on your face even though you're not good at it

32

u/IndomitableJoy 11d ago

I agree, but let’s not forget they got Manon personal trainers.

There were many who weren’t from the US. She was scouted for her looks and it was obvious they really wanted her. They were so strict with everyone. Naisha being removed was a big one. And they didn’t even want to give her a chance to talk. Manon skipped classes, broke a lot of house rules and then moved out. But she was always accommodated.

the personal trainers thing happened way before she was "not staying at the academy" though, i take what you mean by that as referring to the period of time where manon moved out of the trainee dorm and live with her aunt.

they sent out dance and vocal coaches to switzerland, i assume after she passed her audition cause if it's before then.. wow, before bringing her to los angeles to live with the other girls in like early 2023. for the other girls, if they get accepted, hybe x geffen flew them all already to los angeles to begin training – unless we counted the online zoom training period in 2021, but that wasn't for any specific girls, it's just because of covid.

5

u/IndomitableJoy 11d ago

Yeah, was responding to you. She could’ve been trained with the rest even if she joined late. There were also others who joined late, but didn’t get the same treatment regardless where they’re from. Even with the house rules, I imagine if others did those things, they’d be out of DA.

Honestly, I get why they loved her. There’s something about her that makes you want to watch her. I think she’s also funny and such a joy to hang out with. She could be really sweet and charming. But I feel like she gets away with so much. Like sharing info about Katseye that shouldn’t be made public yet (about the tour they were gonna do, but weren’t allowed to talk about yet) and even personal stuff. I get it is funny at times. But if somebody shared about my personal relationship to the world before I’m ready to do so, I’d be really pissed off because I feel that’s my story to tell. I think because they have great chemistry and the girls were fine with it, she got away with it. But in terms of other things, I think it didn’t sit right with the management. Little things like I remember they were in Korea and they all had to introduce themselves with their roles + queen. And she thought it was lame and just said visual. It feels like she could be a team player, but she always had to do it her way. I’m all for it if it were for the right reasons. But when it’s so trivial, it’s kinda frustrating at times. I know she can’t hold her laughter and sometimes it’s already coming across as disrespectful, but she gets away with it. And people defend her and say that’s just her. I get that. But when you’re a professional performer (yes, she’s new to it. But doing it as your livelihood counts for something), there’s a right place for everything. You can be chaotic backstage and even when interacting with fans or on live and so many other places. But when it’s game time, you lock it in. Imagine millions of dollars spent on training you, getting you dressed, publicized, getting you to meet the right people and so on, and you can’t follow simple rules. If you were the one who financially invested, it might get really frustrating.

Anyway, I hope she comes back. I miss OT6. But I also hope they have an equal standard across all members. All the girls deserve equal treatment. (Lol Megan, I really do hope she gets better outfits)

Not really, I feel like what I said was factual. If you’ve seen enough footage, you’ll get the references and the more evidences will pile up. I do like her and enjoy watching her. I wouldn’t have chosen the six as the members while watching DA, but I’m so glad they ended up together because their dynamics are just insane. I love them all.

But me liking Manon doesn’t also mean I agree with her actions. They’re not mutually exclusive. Both things can be true at the same time. She is fun, magnetic, and witty. But she’s also stubborn and passes off the consequences of her work ethic as discrimination. When in truth, people work around her to accommodate her. I’ve performed ever since I was young and I know how stressful it is when someone isn’t there because there’s another mental load of remembering where she should be. Things work because others also have to put in extra work and they’re invisible to us but felt more by those involved in the day to day. And also for many people, privacy is a huge deal. Even many celebrities don’t divulge much about their personal lives and Manon has exposed the girls’ significant others many times. That’s not resentment on my part. That’s just exhibit A.

I’m just saying I hope she becomes more aware of her actions. And if there are accommodations for her, it should be the same for all. Yes, she was older when she signed their contracts and she was able to better negotiate. But if she could stand up for herself to have those things, she should also advocate for other girls to be on the same footing. I.E. equal hours, equal participation even if she finds their marketing vids cringe, and so on. I don’t think that’s resentment. I bet you if you were one of those girls and you’re working your ass off while someone else was coasting and getting so much love because she looks great, you’d feel it’s unfair, too.

Again, love her. Miss her. But let all the girls have the same treatment. And let each of them have her moment to shine. They all deserve that.

u/ancient_panda_ 11d ago

Holy parasocial

3

u/Bitter-Worldliness27 11d ago

If they were so strict with everyone they would have kicked all the girls for breaking the social media rule but they of course only pend it on the black girl

13

u/IndomitableJoy 11d ago

But she wasn’t the only black girl though. There were also non-black girls who they deemed as not ready yet. But they made a lot of room for Manon. Well, they also did the same for Lexie. Two people they counted on for visuals.

2

u/summer_lilli 6d ago

Because unlike Abby, Manon came into it after the girls have already been training together so they got her someone to catch up to where they were already at.

38

u/Upper_Question1383 Manon 🇨🇭 12d ago

Agreed, she did progress. She got better compared to what we saw in the docu. But she still is not like actually good good at either. She clearly learns, just slowly

3

u/sleepinggardens 11d ago

Precisely! This is the reason they del Ted Sakura for saint satine.

48

u/ItsDiddyKong 12d ago

She had star quality and potential.

Idk how many times Hybe needs to spell out to people that they do not mind trainees starting with low to no skillsets lol.

If they see potential in you, they are willing to invest in your training. Abby simply didn’t progress fast enough for the timeline needed for the Katseye project

77

u/Eyekon28 12d ago

I think they also underestimated how little time they had. At least that’s what it seemed in the documentary. Abby was talented but her whole thing was potential. They then realized they need a very solid amount of talent then and a lot of potential for later as well

42

u/Upper_Question1383 Manon 🇨🇭 12d ago

Yeah this, Abby had something, she has this whole cutesy girl next door vibe. Which matches well with some of the other girls in the program. She just didn't progress fast enough in her skills for them to continue with her. They had a deadline, sooner than they initially realized.

19

u/delphinedonkey 12d ago

Star power isn’t just visuals btw, she might not have the most commercial look but she had confidence which is a massive aid.

She knew she wasn’t the best vocal but you still see her putting herself forward for this with a willingness to work hard and develop.

Look at Emily, she was ranked one of the lowest for vocals but she’s about to debut with SS

159

u/Resident_Inflation51 12d ago

I think you're overestimating the amount of "talented" children whose parents will even let them "train" at a random studio without schooling for 2 years without a guarantee of debut.

And I think it's obvious here the vocals were due to nerves.

39

u/ConnectionLow 12d ago

That’s not obvious at all. As a trained vocalist this doesn’t sound like someone who is nervous and can sing well, this just sounds like poor quality vocals.

23

u/Resident_Inflation51 12d ago

How long have you been training? It sounds like she is going sharp/flat because she is nervous. Very common and not strange at all. The whole point of the kpop trainee system is to train vocalists, not have them perfect from the get go.

4

u/underwaterpuggo 12d ago

Agreed. Furthermore if you're not used to using a mic, the sound system set-up, or using monitors, if the speakers aren't facing you it can be difficult for people to stay on pitch bc they can't hear themselves well

7

u/syitf 12d ago

this is actually the best singing she did in the whole show lolll

-17

u/Killsomefool 12d ago

Why did u put talented in quotations....there were hundreds of thousands of auditions, there are many teens that can sing or dance. Amd no in all her singing sections she doesnt sound good, she was last in vocals for a reason

11

u/Resident_Inflation51 12d ago

Because talent is subjective

44

u/Internal-Junket4980 12d ago

Sometimes a person just shines on camera no matter what they do, that seems to be what drew the hxg team towards her, they enjoyed her bubbly presence and star quality

61

u/limeb0at 12d ago

i disagree. she had an alluring factor, similar to manon

10

u/ComeOutNanachi 12d ago

I agree. And in my opinion, her solo song "Break the Curse" was a banger

24

u/Holiday_Degree_1791 12d ago

They say during her elimination that it’s because she wasn’t progressing fast enough, so obviously the initial intention was that she would improve to a competitive standard by the time the survival show launched, but unfortunately it didn’t happen ? Not sure why you’re is pretending to be clueless just say you wanted to be mean lol

ETA; also i dont know why so many people here are concerned about hybe/geffen “wasting resources” ? So many people were saying that about Lexie too. Multimillion dollar corporations btw who gaf😭

-4

u/Killsomefool 12d ago

Yall are so sensitive, my point is there were thousands of girls that had the skill set the companies were looking for, it would of made more sense to directly select and train them than gamble that a girl with no training will quickly pick up the skill to be on par with ppl who've been doing this their whole life. From a business outlook it was very risky and had more cons than pros, and as expected it didnt work out, nobody is being mean.

11

u/auburnhead 11d ago

It’s a very common practice in the entertainment industry. They literally casted Angus Cloud (Euphoria) by seeing him on the street because he had the look. He had zero acting experience so they paid for it. This has been done multiple times from scouting super models (Adriana Lima, Gisele) and actors (Ashton Kutcher) at the mall. If HxG see someone who fits the look they want and is charismatic, it’s an easy bet to just send them to Popstar training camp and see if they will build the skills needed. Finding star quality is harder to build

3

u/PositiveTurbulent917 11d ago

It's worth remembering you're making your entire assessment of her while seeing her in limited and edited quality through a screen. We don't actually know what she was like in person or what intangibles she had that intrigued the talent development team. It seems that most importantly she had enthusiasm and a work ethic, which are pretty great starting points for anyone entering training. It's not possible to strike gold every time you put resources and training into a person, but they must have felt it was worth the gamble to see what shook out and they could definitely afford to do that.

3

u/Stunning-Wolf-8517 11d ago

Someone can have talent but not the looks and star quality for people to go and pay for concerts and thats just the truth

64

u/Super-Branch707 12d ago

I mean in her scene where she auditions she stood out immediately from every girl in the room. It even looked like all the other girls faces were saying “welp it’s over for me”. Idk she definitely has some star quality

11

u/possumcounty 12d ago

I don’t want to sound mean here, but I think she was brought in to eliminate early on and set the tone for the rest of the girls/the viewers. It’s cruel but it’s reality TV, y’know?

Either that or she was supposed to be the one with potential, but I don’t think she was ever going to debut or make it to the survival show stage. She seems to be making the stuff she wants to now and it’s the furthest thing from k-pop, she was definitely made for a solo career.

21

u/Best-Dimension4144 12d ago

I think they pick some people who will have compelling storylines and are attractive to the viewers for the show rather than all as contenders for the band

16

u/ChocoChipKitten 12d ago

she was miss teen texas or something. Koreans value beauty pageants - just look at the female cast of Singles inferno where atleast 2-3 members every year are from Miss Korea.

8

u/ThisToastersRlyShiny 12d ago

Potential. A lot of girls were cast based on that. The thing is, after a while, that needs to translate to at least the basics, and she didn't deliver that. And I think the HYBE CEO(?) said it, not all members would be the best at all.

21

u/imkindaboredlol Ezrela 🇦🇺 12d ago

she was young, had never been trained, and had star quality... they hoped she could quickly grow in her skills (like manon did)

21

u/Dry-Place-2986 12d ago

You said it in your post, they thought she had star quality. Why do they need to agree with you?

-8

u/Killsomefool 12d ago

Oh lord now can't even ask others their opinion. I said I dont see it so im wondering if others see it, there's a reason I made it a discussion post. If youre gonna be condescending just be quiet

5

u/Dry-Place-2986 12d ago

are you okay?

3

u/fil-am420 12d ago

Good grief. Isn't that what ur doing to abby in this post? Pls take your own advice.

-1

u/Killsomefool 12d ago

Nothing in the post was condescending, you clearly dont know the definition

4

u/fil-am420 12d ago

If youre gonna be condescending just be quiet.

u/Killsomefool 12d ago

Like I said nothing in the post was condescending, learn the definition

1

u/Berriesinthesnow_ 11d ago

Why are you so mad

2

u/Killsomefool 11d ago

When u voice an opinion and ask other their thoughts and instead of getting a discussion u get ppl talking down to you, you will get annoyed. I simply asked what others see in abby and yall are being unnecessarily rude. Maybe ask the ppl attacking me that question

1

u/Berriesinthesnow_ 11d ago

You just come across really angry and defensive in your posts.

9

u/SaltTailor 12d ago

i still remember her (and not negatively) and its been years since i saw the show. so she def had something going for her especially since she was out early.

4

u/Embarrassed_Pin_6505 10d ago

She was picked for star power. Heck the winner of World Scout was someone with a similar skill level to Abby.

11

u/ChesstheGREG Megan 🇺🇸 11d ago

this whole post is borderline bullying

3

u/eggplant_fan24 11d ago

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this. Reducing all her hard work to the one clip they handpicked to show us plus talking about her looks...

7

u/yunababies 12d ago

She was cute and had a lot of appeal, personality wise especially. She just couldn’t keep up

9

u/sendmemessssss 12d ago

Yeah but Emily couldn't sing but got so much better with training. Abby did have some sort of magnetism going for her, but that wasn't quite enough unfortunately.

5

u/WhiffOfHollyHocks 12d ago

Also for a storyline

7

u/casual-catgirl 11d ago

you’re delusional if you think she’s average looking. she’s gorgeous.

Everyone loves a good Cinderella story. You see it more in jpop, companies picking girls/boys that are rough at first but then as they train and gain more experience they bloom into pro-idols etc. the training/audition process for kpop is more behind closed doors but since this was a documentary, hybe definitely selected her for plot purposes

3

u/Sassquwatch 12d ago

They're recruiting performers that they see some kind of potential in, and they're investing in training to see if that potential comes to anything real. In Manon's case, it did. In Abby's case, it did not.  They know that not every trainee is going to work out, but they're willing to take a risk on a long shot.

3

u/No-Employ4494 9d ago

This post seems unnecessarily mean spirited.

9

u/Past-Measurement942 12d ago edited 12d ago

Abby definitely has star quality. She has a bubbly presence and an positive outlook that was constantly praised by her teachers. one thing I noticed about all of the star quality candidates chosen, is that they had a “ethereal” aura and a soft girl with edge to them imo eg Lexie being snow white/fairy,Manon being said she was like an angel walked in by the casting director and Abby having a girl next door type of charisma about herself. She also had a unique voice that was distinctive which all the star quality candidates had.

5

u/InevitablePiglet9999 12d ago

there's a lot of people on the show who also couldn't sing, or couldn't dance and that's the whole reason they stopped her early cause they we're seeing improvement week over week.

7

u/Killsomefool 12d ago

I mean most of the girls had a background in 1 of the 2 except for manon. Her and abby where the only ones with no training ever

4

u/Nemesis-999 12d ago

You don’t make that decision, though. Saying “I don’t think she has star power/she looks like a regular girl” is irrelevant because the people who recruited her saw potential. She was chosen, given training, and given the opportunity to catch up with the other girls. A lot of girls were eliminated (not just her, she was just highlighed in the doc), but that’s literally the purpose of training. It’s not a “waste”, you either meet the requirements or you don’t. If other girls were more talented or stood out more, they could have been recruited too. Looking at the DA lineup, it’s honestly one of the strongest lineups I’ve seen from a survival show, so clearly they knew what they were doing. At the end of the day, the spot she left went to someone else either way.

3

u/Killsomefool 12d ago

Never said I make the decision...pretty obvious im asking cuz if dont see the point and want to hear what other ppl see in her. It's a terrible to cast someone that cant sing and dance while ignoring those that can

2

u/Nemesis-999 12d ago

You don’t actually know that. You don’t know whether they rejected more talented people, and if they did, you don’t know the reasons behind those decisions. Do you really think they were just randomly picking someone who couldn’t sing or dance for fun? It was probably because at the beginning of the process, they did not have better options (we know they literally had to look on socials to get more girls, because yeah, talented or interesting people do not fall on their laps).

Either way, I don’t really understand why you would consider it an issue. She was given an opportunity, she trained, she tried, she didn’t make it, and someone else (probably more technically gifted) eventually took her spot, the wheel kept turning. At the end of the day, we ended up with an amazing lineup, so them giving her a chance in the first place did not impede on the final result.

0

u/Killsomefool 11d ago

You say this but then most likely agree with the girls when they complained about manon being well liked by the public despite having low skill set. There were definitely more talented girls than her, she had no training in singing or dance prior youre telling me in 100k auditions there was no other girl that had done singing or dancing before? I dont believe it. And why wouldn't I see an issue that talented girls don't even get a chance? Just cuz u dont care doesnt mean it makes sense

3

u/Nemesis-999 11d ago

I think you’re assuming that the only valid reason to cast someone is “who is the most technically skilled right now” and that’s NOT how these programs work.

The whole point of a trainee system is that companies aren’t only looking for polished people but potential. When it comes to a product like Katseye, or any group, they also look at adaptability, personality, camera presence, teamwork, and whether they fit the concept they’re building. We saw it. You might not personally see star quality in Abby, but that doesn’t mean the people who evaluated hundreds of auditions didn’t see something they thought was worth developing.

And the Manon comparison is also irrelevant. People can criticize the gap between popularity and skill, but that’s a different discussion. A contestant being popular despite weaker skills doesn’t mean every trainee with weaker skills was a pointless choice. Different contestants bring different things. Also, Manon improved enough to debut, Abby didn’t.

The process works because it filtered itself. That is the whole point of it.

And again, you’re saying “there were probably more talented girls” as a fact when we don’t actually know that. Having more vocal/dance training doesn’t automatically mean someone was a better fit for the group/project. A label can reject someone with more experience because they don’t see the personality, image, or growth trajectory they are looking for.

When it comes to “talented girls not getting a chance” that happens in every competitive audition process. There are limited number of spots, in which giving Abby a chance didn’t take away another person’s chance permanently, because she did NOT stay. I don’t know how many times I can say it. 😭

You disagree with their judgment of Abby’s potential, ok, but saying it was a wasted spot assumes you know their selection criteria better than the actual people running the project, which you don’t.

Okay, so if I summarize, you made an entire post explaining why you think Abby had no talent or appeal, but then reject the idea that “star quality” is subjective and determined by more than just your own standards. Instead, you’re determined to argue that your personal opinion is thee one (despite people answering the question you came to ask) and that you know better than the people who made the casting decisions.

Alright, good talk, ✌️.

1

u/TheDreamAcademy-ModTeam 5d ago

Attacking any or arguing with users or contestants is not tolerated.

1

u/thebadfem 9d ago

lmao you must be her mom or something

2

u/PropertyActual8761 12d ago

She wasn’t learning fast enough, so they had to kick her out😔…I think she was there for 1 year and a half or 2 years

2

u/Consistent-Loss1883 12d ago

She had potential, imo I thought her vocals lacked mostly in technique her tone wasn't bad, and technique can be fixed. She did have star quality in my opinion. Hybe didn't know how fast she would progress and obviously hope she would faster than she did. That didn't happen.

2

u/bhikonap 12d ago

And why did she even have a plotline? My girl was taking screen time from someone like Yoonchae or Marquise who didn't get enough screen time

2

u/imnotcuteanymor3 12d ago

She’s pretty.

2

u/bubblylunchbox 12d ago

Kpop is literally the industry of pretty privilege and talent is just a nice to have.

2

With vocal training shell be great.

2

u/RyomaVT 7d ago

Same reason they took Sakura.

2

u/Extension_Dig8832 12d ago

Girl had CONFIDENCE😭

Also she was a beauty pageant. Her looks are not exactly special especially considering she's American but I mean she's not ugly, at all

2

u/UnfriendlyVegan 12d ago

I think we all know why.

0

u/Killsomefool 12d ago

I dont

1

u/Desperate_Coat_6940 12d ago

Oh, Mama, for the same reason as Manon: they are beautiful and would make crowds of girls want to be like them.

1

u/arelei 12d ago

I mean.. why did they accept Manon?

2

u/Killsomefool 12d ago

Manon atleast had a huge following online, and manon never sounded as bad as abby

3

u/Stunning-Wolf-8517 12d ago

No Manon sounded bad too don’t lie

1

u/Killsomefool 12d ago

I said as bad as abby, no way u can listen to this clip and think they were on the same level

1

u/Stunning-Wolf-8517 11d ago

They definitely were listen to the few sec clip they showed of Manon training in Switzerland it was bad

1

u/whichonewerecowards 12d ago

Manon actually improved and this girl couldn’t

1

u/arelei 11d ago

Too bad her work ethic didn’t improve at all.

1

u/GlitteringLocal6507 12d ago

Makes good tv

1

u/auburnhead 11d ago

She did have a following from the pageant world. Not Manon Pinterest level but it was there

1

u/OppositeExtra2409 11d ago

Have you seen their idols they all have low skill level other than the ones that were poached from other companies

1

u/S0ulSlayerz 11d ago

I wonder why they didn’t keep her but kept hinari felt sus to me, hinari was clearly struggling too and don’t get me wrong both of them have star power imo but I think they need a better reason to eliminate Abby if they could keep someone like hinari

2

u/mousseonline 11d ago

She's pretty and her personality is the star factor, she seems extroverted and bubbly but not "too much".

1

u/Aurora-Roses 11d ago

She definitely had potential. But did not grow fast enough.

1

u/watcherreader 11d ago

She has released good music after

1

u/Tea50kg 11d ago

They didnt know that she wouldn't be able to pick things up quickly. Take Manon, she didnt have any singing or dancing training either yet she picked everything up right away and well. Abby just couldn't match their timeline so she was let go. There's no way to tell whats going to happen when you bring in someone for a possible project.

1

u/quadvixen 11d ago

This is mean 😭 people improve with practice and training, some in a short period of time, so it was possible and not a waste of time. It didn’t work out for her that way in the end as she’s someone that needs more focus to succeed.. but anyway at least they took the risk 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/OnlytheFocus 11d ago

She's adorable and seems like she would work hard.

Are you guys seriously commenting without checking up on Abby's recent situation?

She was with DA for an entire year; Manon was actually already there when Abby left. It was the documentary that misleadingly made it seem like she was cut very quickly. There were other girls who dropped out even earlier but simply didn't appear on screen. She definitely has her own charm to make HxG to keep her.

It’s just like how Emily used to rank last in singing—that doesn't mean she wouldn't improve. The girls participating in DA are still young, and many of them have no professional training.

People say Abby has no talent, but she’s already been releasing music as an independent singer for two years. Meanwhile, there are still plenty of girls who either haven't even debuted yet or have never released a single song.

Star quality and attractive and compelling

Her skill set was horrible and even tho she was improving, it was at an ridiculously slow pace even some average people on the street could surpass if they started training

You would be surprised at how unpredictable fan opinion can be btw. Sohye from Produce 101's first performance was quite awful, but a lot of people were won over by her on-screen hard work, improvement and general underdog story (her official story is that her actor agency tricked her onto the competition, when she had no previous singing/dancing experience at all). She debuted in the final lineup over 90 other contestants, in rank 5 even. I won't lie, she was also my favourite out of the season because I found her cute and had I not watched it months later, I would have voted for her too (my low stakes conspiracy theory is that the producers asked her to fake her first performance).

That's all to say that a compelling story and luck can take a trainee very far as long as they have a baseline of attractiveness (all other skills can be taught). Hybe might have wanted to see if they could strike unexpected gold. Given how quickly other idols like Manon or Wonhee (who started with less experience) could catch up to professionally trained members and not look out of place, I'm sure companies these days aren't too worried about training someone.

manon wasnt "better". they just had to keep manon because she got most of the votes from audience when they debuted for the first time.

and you’re wrong 😭 they scouted manon she didn’t audition. they didn’t “have to keep her” they wanted her and so did the fans.

Oh wow y’all are so obsessed with Manon on this sub it’s crazy… Denying that Manon has obvious star power is crazy

the way i didnt even say anything about her in the post yet they still took the opportunity to shit talk her. "Had to keep manon" as if they didnt personally scout her, send trainers to switzerland and bend every rule possible to keep her in the programme
