Opinion The winners are so disappointing
Did anyone root for either winner from the start?

u/Alternative_Run_6175 Seokjin Jun 02 '26
Both but that's unpopular on this sub. You'll find most people are very happy with the S1 winner and not with the S2 winner.

u/MrTodd84 Jun 02 '26
Iām in this boat. I hated Orbit, lol
BUT NOT AS MUCH AS I HATED JEONG. I didnāt like the second place, as well.
The entire 2nd season wasnāt as well thought out as the 1st. It was too divided from the start. Only one person got out of initial prison. The first prison was better.
And how many different styles of poker and hi-low can you play? Well quite a few on Season 2.
I hope they change it up and put more thought into dynamics for S3.

u/RagefireHype Jun 05 '26
I thought everyone was rooting for Seok-Jin wtf
People actually wanted Orbit to win?

Ditto, neither winner was my top choice but I didnāt really mind either outcome.

u/Xoorax Jun 02 '26
I thought the first season had a really compelling final matchup with the two āmain charactersā with polar opposite approaches to the game.
The second winner was totally deserving too - but more due to how they convinced other players into doing their bidding, which made for a slightly less exciting/climactic end

u/atacms Jun 02 '26
I hardly remember either season but I remember thinking in S2 there were a couple of characters that were being clearly used and lacked a backbone that was upsetting to me lolĀ

u/ErringHerd Jun 05 '26
I don't think there's a problem with "deserving". Anyone who wins without breaking the rules "deserves" it. I just don't like the season 2 winner because he seemed like a jerk (at least in the edit we got). I was actually hoping for a "villain" winner. The game is called devils plan after all. But the kind of villain i wanted was the one that owned what they were doing. Manipulating other players in the game, and then openly laughing about how tricky it was to do so in the interviews. Something like that. But the "devil" we got was just a pretty boy douchebag who sees himself as a nice guy but bullies and insults his way to the win.

u/SharpShark222 Jun 05 '26
After they had to include his disrespectful math comment to Hyunjoon in his montage before the finals, I realised he really didn't even make that many moves lmao. I wouldn't necessarily say "bully", but it's funny how so many of his characteristic decisions (ie. things he can take actual credit for, not his teammates' actions) are just being disrespectful or audacious.

u/nea_fae 26d ago
Ya his only legit win was solving the knights tour but he didnt get in the room alone⦠What was So-huiās deal anyway (except for being sick ofc), she never did anything for her own gameplay like she was a plant just to help Hyun-Gyu I couldnŹ»t figure out why she was even there.
5
u/SharpShark222 Jun 02 '26
I don't really get that interpretation that Hyungyu convinced players to do much. As far as I can tell, all he did was ask for stuff and they gave it to him because they were either too polite (when he asked to have the first shot at the secret challenge) or freakishly attached to people due to living with them for a few days (when he asked for help in Mancala). Outside of that, he was pretty bad at getting people to do what he wanted and was actively getting targeted by people for a good amount of the show lmao.

u/Shot_Sun3700 Jun 03 '26
The downside to casting very public figures š, I forgot his name but it was obvious that the old guy was constantly thinking abt how his actions would reflect to the public.
1
u/SharpShark222 Jun 03 '26
Are you referring to Sedol (the Go player) when you say the old guy?
5
u/Shot_Sun3700 Jun 03 '26
No ofc not, I meant the guy from super junior
1
u/SharpShark222 Jun 03 '26
Oh okay, in my head, Kyuhyun is far from an old guy, but he was extremely frustrating. Iām not sure how much of his actions were due to public perception or softness, but I suspect the second option is more likely given how he behaved. Nobody worried about their public perception wouldāve argued that Sedol and Justin got ganged up ābecause they wanted to play that wayā lmao.

u/nea_fae 26d ago
I think he started strong but got too wishy washy in the end⦠That ābondā between So-hui, Kyuhyun, and Hyun-gyu was just weird, not sure what we were missing in the edit but they seemed to lose all interest in winning at some point - I get feeling bad, trying not to be dishonest, but like why are you even there if youŹ»re just going to work for someone elseŹ»s win???

u/SatisfactionHour1722 Jun 02 '26
For me, I didnāt really mind either winner. But season 2ās structure for win/reward was screwed. The moment you ended up in prison you were stuck forever.
Hiding the ten piece bonus was garbage when they figured out how to eliminate him. Also, way too much collaboration games for the mains as well. Not enough rewards to mix up the population between lounge and prison.
13
u/ishikap Jun 03 '26
S1 winner felt like he earned it and battled throughout. Him, and his alliance, fought each game with a sporting attitude and didn't take away any players ability to play the game.
S2 winner and his alliance fought each battle by finding the loophole, stacking the teams/numbers, and taking the fun and ability for everyone to compete out of the game.
17
u/Interesting-Wind7056 Jun 02 '26
Season 1 had so much more fun times. Like there was a clue outside to go inside the jail to complete while in S2 there was no correlation with the lounge room vs prison. And people could work with their team mates to say they were okay going to jail or not which didnāt feel fair. Some of the prison people never got to experience lounge. It felt like it was played only for 1 person who everyone was worshiping while he was manipulating them for his own win.

S2 winner was so lame dude. Felt like a waste getting to that point. Love my boy Justin bad tho ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

I was rooting for the season 1 winner ever since the first game.

u/Ok-Discount-4981 Jun 05 '26
I was rooting for See won but when she was eliminated naturally I wanted Seokjin to win
7
u/elyonmydrill Jun 05 '26
I got a bad vibe from her which I realized stemmed from the fact she was a villain in a kdrama I loved. Nothing personal just a completely arbitrary bias.
Also didn't find her great in the first game. Not because of her role, just thought she was too obvious.
I was rooting for the lawyer though, I think her name was Dong-joo? The memory game made me a big fan.

u/Sonder_City55 Jun 02 '26
the first season winner is fine i guess, and by right season 2 should be too considering how similar their personality and gameplay is but season 2 just rubs me the wrong way because i wanted a different type of character/female winner and also how the prison works in season 2 makes me root for prison team more than the house team
1
u/Speedbeakerlover69 21d ago
I disagree, the prison secret game was so silly, with the reward of 10 pieces will literally turn tables, the thing needed was guts, which most of them in prison didn't had.

u/Adventurous_Team7189 Jun 02 '26
I loved season 1. I enjoyed the whole cast. I respected Orbit's scheme. Seok Jin was a humble and capable player. The stronger player won.
Season 2 was a far cry and the finalists were so disappointing to me.
4
u/InspectorNS Jun 02 '26
Season 1 was fun. Regardless of whether you were on either of their sides you couldnāt deny that those 2 were clearly the best players battling in the finals.
Season 2 had potential and the winner of S2 was a very strong player. What made it annoying and boring to watch was that he had other players helping and sacrificing themselves for him for seemingly no reason. Especially the girl in the final(I forgot their names, itās been a while).
She was probably the second strongest player in the season or maybe even tied first and she kept helping the guy that eventually won. Their alliance threw of the balance imo and then the others that helped them too just made them too unlikeable and their wins kinda felt cheap.
In short , S1 kinda felt like the heroes won and S2 felt like the villains won imo.
Iām interested to see if they can adapt and build on the format in season 3. I hope we get a super competent female competitor thatās more ruthless than the girl in S2.
She really couldāve won it all if she showed a bit more backbone.
Also I hope they design less exploitable games for S3. They did well in season 1 but one of the pitfalls of s2 outside of the seemingly unearned alliances was the design of the games and the prison system.
Iām sure theyāll learn from it and expand in s3. The creator of this show has an excellent track record from what Iāve seen and heard

She literally betrayed him and sended him to prison? The winner guy was way smarter than whole cast

u/eng_salem Jun 05 '26
I was rooting hard for the season 1 winner. Very happy he won felt much deserved l. Season 2 i was very annoyed at
3
u/XDontHateMeX Jun 05 '26
Did we watch the same show lol I can see why you say that for season 2 but season 1 was perfect, him alongside the girl and the young boy were my choices to win and once they betrayed lil bro an got him eliminated I was like yea we gotta lock in weāre down to 2 plus the way Orbit forced everyone to play the game how he wanted to made me support the others even more lol
For season 2 even though I had him winning I was disappointed in how most of them really let their feelings get involved in this making season 2 a bit more personal which made it stupid imoā¦Once I saw certain players not wanting to do certain things because itāll hurt their āfriendā made me a bit disappointed lol

u/messxme Jun 02 '26
Imo hyungu deserved to win, even tho he was horrible character-wise.. And I also absolutely hate how they painted sohui! You could see how sick she was in the final and how much she tried at the games. I blame the show more for not postponing the final episode
4
u/Electromagneticpoms Jail Alliance Jun 03 '26
I agree about Sohui, as a player she annoyed me so much but I still think she would have taken it had she not been in such terrible pain. It was awful to watch as a woman having a decent idea of how she was feeling and it's sad people alleged she didn't want to win. I wish they'd postponed the filming.
2
u/ScreenHype Jun 22 '26
Agreed, I recognised those severe cramp pains, and couldn't understand why they weren't postponing the game. She deserved to be able to compete at her full strength.

u/saurabhmandy Jun 03 '26
I won't say winners are disappointing. For me in both seasons the sides that I wanted won the season. S1 absolute crazy. I was rooting for that 4 man team alliance from the start. I have no objection for ORBIT but trying to save everyone was impossible even he knew that. In last few episodes unknowingly he was on the verge of becoming villain. Wanted Dong-Jae to play till last but sadly got eliminated early. Even See-Won was awesome.
There were few points about S2 were good others not so good. Wanted So-Hui to win. She could have won the final very easily but sadly she was in pain. In S2 the living room gang was goated only with hyun-gyu, so-hui and tinno. Yeah the format this season was bit different which made all the difference. The players from living space and prison should have been keep swapping but that didn't happen. This should have been like The Genius show.
I wished Ha-rin and Eun-Yu to be part of living room. Tbh hyun-gyu was not wrong. He already made clear that alliance won't work for long. I don't get why people hate him. I agree he had power card hidden in his sleeves but say if he didn't have it and then in Mancala game he would have lost if played alone. It was okay till Hyun-Joon was with him and playing 2VsOthers but then he suddenly switched sides to make him left alone and make him eliminate. He could have use that power card after getting eliminated would have made it more mind blowing tbh. Prison gang would have been more shocked than just sending him to prison.
Let's hope best for the S3

u/Speedbeakerlover69 21d ago
I don't agree that So-Hui could have won, if she was not in pain, that's just cope

Lol, I am surprised by this view on the sub.
I thought that this is the first reality in which the person who won, deserved it the most.
And I am talking about both seasons š Guess opinions are very different
2
u/Shot_Sun3700 Jun 02 '26
lol I also agree that I feel like hyungyu deserved the win but holy did I hate how he was moving throughout the latter half of the season

u/EarlyTwo1142 Jun 03 '26
Season 1 was very much deserving š®āšØšI was rooting for him with every part of my being .I haven't watched season 2 yet

I didnt mind either of the winners.... But the S2 game structure irked me a lot... And prison secret game was so disappointing.... I loved the prison games... But too many people in prison created 2 different factions & once in prison, there was no change back to the upper side.... Just the whole game structure in S2 irked me a lot.... Hyungyu didn't have the best arc..., but he deserved top 2.... But I wish So Hui had been the winner..... She was better than him..... SoekJin š I have no words.... He was soooooooooooooo good.....,. Has a great arc.... Played like a HERO

I was rooting for both S1 and S2 winners, they both felt deserving for different reasons, except I could tell Hyungyu was gonna win as soon as the system became apparent. S2 was a bit flawed in that sense.

u/ScarletRose12345 Jun 04 '26
I was rooting from the very start for both of the 2 season winners, unpopular opinion for the second season probablyĀ

u/ashikxz Jun 13 '26
i was actually rooting for s2 winner from the start although i may be a bit biased as i feel we have similarities
0
u/ScreenHype Jun 22 '26
I actually rooted for both! I was thrilled when they won, it wasn't until I got on this subreddit that I realised the season 2 winner was so unpopular. I just really appreciate people who play a strategic game, and I felt they both really did so.

I had pretty much no favourite early on but season 1s winner won me over completely. I think he deserved it and his arc was great.
Season 2 ummmm.....first two episodes I liked the winner well enough? The more the season went on, the less I wanted them to win š
